Such a pleasure to have you here, Kyle and Jon meltSAUNAtruck ! đ„
âWe came to Finland knowing enough about sauna to know how much we didnât know.
For the last month, weâve been visiting a different sauna nearly every day. Public saunas, neighborhood saunas, smoke saunas, seaside saunas, old saunas, new saunas. Weâve talked to architects, sauna keepers, regulars and anyone generous enough to share what they know with us.
But this trip was never just about seeing a lot of saunas.
Before we ever came to Finland, we started looking for someone who could help us go deeper into traditional Finnish sauna culture. Through a lot of research and conversations with people in the sauna world, we found Sipoonjoen Perinnesauna Sipoonjoki Heritage Sauna and Laura Foon Laura Foon "Sauna-Akka".
We reached out, explained who we were and what we hoped to learn, and were honestly surprised when they invited us to come spend five days studying with them.
The people here have devoted years to researching and preserving traditional Finnish sauna practices, including knowledge passed down from generations before them and practices that have largely disappeared from sauna today.
We didnât come here looking for a certificate or a shortcut to becoming experts.
We came because we built a Finnish sauna and now invite other people into it. If weâre going to share this culture and help people back home understand it, we want our own understanding to keep getting deeper too.
So after a month of experiencing sauna all over Finland, we packed our bags and headed into the forest.
For the next five days, this is where weâll be.
Learning what we can. Unlearning what we need to. And trying to understand a little more about just how much there is still to know.â
