Day 4 – Bone broth and endless energy

After two nights of not sleeping properly while traveling, I expected to feel exhausted on Day 4.

Instead… I felt incredible.

In the afternoon, after more than three days of fasting, I finally had some bone broth that a family member kindly brought for me.

I cannot even explain how amazing that felt.

It was like my whole body lit up with energy.
Suddenly I felt like a Duracell bunny.

I spent the day driving around, visiting people, being on the go for hours and even late at night I still was not tired.

At the same time, my period was fully flowing and my body simply felt supported.

Moments like this remind me how much our bodies can change when we start working with them instead of constantly fighting against them.

And just to be clear:
this is simply my personal experience and what has worked for me over time.

But when I think back to the years of overwhelming pain, fear, painkillers, and feeling helpless…
the difference feels almost unreal.

I’m genuinely grateful for how far my body has come.

Day 3 – Freedom around food

Day 3 felt different again.

By this point, something interesting had happened:
the desire to eat had almost completely disappeared.

I even had food with me because I had been offered some for free during my travels.
And I accepted it.

But for once, I didn’t feel the need to eat it just because it was there.

That moment honestly made me so happy.

Because I remembered other times in the past when I had eaten simply because food was available and afterwards I did not feel good at all.

This time was different.

I was able to pause.
Listen to my body.
And realize that I actually felt amazing without eating.

At the same time, my period flow properly started and I could feel tiny little sensations in my stomach here and there…
but nothing even remotely close to the pain I used to experience years ago.

That contrast hit me deeply.

There was a time in my life when my period pain completely took over my world.
And now here I was, traveling, fasting, functioning, feeling grateful, and actually enjoying how I felt in my body.

That feels huge to me.

Day 2 – Smelling food and smiling anyway

Day 2 of fasting looked very different.

I was traveling most of the day, surrounded by food smells everywhere.
And honestly… it was funny.

Every now and then I would smell something delicious and my brain would go:
“That smells SO good.”

And then another part of me calmly answered:
“We’re fasting today.”

Not in a restrictive way.
Not in a punishing way.
Just a calm reminder of the choice I had already made.

One thing I have noticed through fasting is how much of eating can sometimes simply be habit, routine, or reacting to smells and surroundings.

Meanwhile my body felt surprisingly calm.

My period was still starting slowly and I had had a great night sleep the night beforehand, I kept going strong.

What felt most empowering was realizing:
I did not feel deprived.

I felt intentional.

Day 1 — Trusting my body again

For me, fasting has never been about weight loss.
It has always been about health.

One of the biggest reasons I fast during my period is because of the pain I used to experience for years.

When I was younger, my period pain was so intense that there were times I had to leave school because I simply could not function anymore. I used painkillers for years, but over time I needed more and more, while they seemed to help less and less.

I still remember one day when the pain became so overwhelming that I actually called an ambulance for myself.
And even then… nothing really helped.

Years later, after changing my eating habits and learning more about nutrition, things slowly started changing.

Now fasting has become one of the tools I personally use to support my body during this time.

This week I started another longer fast.
Monday was Day 1.

I cleaned for 11 hours straight without eating anything and honestly I felt great and energized the whole day.

What amazes me the most is not just the fasting itself –
it’s how different my relationship with my body feels now compared to years ago.

From fighting my body…
to finally learning to support it.
