HIV PREVENTION CAMPAIGN LAUNCH & INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026

The University of Fiji marked International Youth Day 2026 with the launch of its HIV Prevention, Care and Awareness Campaign, at the Saweni Campus today.

Officially opened by the Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Penioni Ravunawa, the campaign brought together students, staff, health professionals and community stakeholders to promote HIV awareness, prevention, testing and the elimination of stigma.

Hon. Ravunawa urged young people to “Know Your Status”, emphasising that addressing HIV requires collective responsibility and greater awareness among Fiji’s young population.

The programme featured educational sessions, student debates, expert discussions, quizzes, entertainment and free HIV testing.

Together, we can build a Fiji where awareness replaces stigma, prevention is prioritised and people living with HIV are treated with dignity and respect.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and peer, Sushmita Devi, who passed away peacefully yesterday (3/8/26)

Sushmita was a dedicated Year 5 MBBS student at the Umanand Prasad School of Medicine and Health Sciences (UPSMHS) and a committed member of the University Student Board (USB) for the past two years.

Hailing from Mulumulo, Nadi, she was known by all who knew her as a remarkably bright, passionate, and deeply committed individual.

Whether in the lecture halls, clinical settings, or working tirelessly for the student body, Sushmita brought warmth, diligence, and a genuine drive to help others. Her loss leaves a profound void in our university community and in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched.

We extend our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and friends during this incredibly difficult time. May her soul rest in peace.

“Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.”

It’s not every day we get to hear from leading specialists in ENT, Ophthalmology, and Pathology all in one afternoon. Taking the learning beyond the textbooks and into real-world clinical practice right here at Saweni Campus.

Empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals! 🩺🇫🇯

We were honored to have the Special Medical Education Session at our Saweni Campus yesterday, in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Global Council – Fiji and the Ministry of Health. It was an insightful afternoon of learning, covering critical topics from modern cataract surgery to the complexities of nasal obstruction and UTI management.
A huge thank you to our distinguished guest presenters—Dr Shakeel Shariff, Dr. Rahuram Sivasubramaniam, Dr. Vinithra Kumar, and Dr. Sai Rupa Baskar—for sharing their expertise with us students and the local medical community.
