When you truly understand the magnitude of addressing Rheumatic Heart Disease across the Pacific, from prevention and clinical care to advocacy and the lived experiences of those affected, it is incredibly inspiring to see more ❤️ joining the regional team, sharing knowledge, experiences, and solutions.
It was a privilege to finally meet fellow RHD champions from Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, many of whom I had previously only connected with virtually. It was also wonderful to be alongside colleagues and friends from Fiji, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands Timor-Leste, Nepal, and the supporting big brothers from Australia and New Zealand.
Coming together from across the region and beyond reinforced the strength of our shared commitment to improving the lives of our people affected with RHD. It was also a powerful reminder that while our challenges can be overwhelming, we are not facing them alone.
What makes this gathering even more special is the formal launch of the Vaka Mauri Collective, a shared commitment to strengthening our efforts across the Pacific. This marks an exciting new chapter in our journey, one that will deepen regional collaboration, amplify our collective voice, and create even greater opportunities to learn from and support
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kado and the Pacific RHD program team for their leadership, vision, and dedication in bringing this initiative to life.
We also remember the late Dr. Toakase of Tonga, whose passion, commitment, and tireless work in this space helped shape this vision and inspire the path we continue to follow today.
❤️
