National Food and Nutrition Centre The NFNC is a National Resource Centre for Food and Nutrition. We work in collaboration with public

Government tasked the NFNC with 4 main responsibilities:
• Monitor the food and nutrition situation in the country through field surveys and assessment of the national food supply
• Advise Government (and other stakeholders) on the food and nutrition situation and formulate evidence-based policy and programmes to improve the nutritional status of Fiji people
• Coordinate and review nutrition progr

ammes/projects and the Fiji Plan of Action for Nutrition (FPAN) which aims to combat nutrition-related diseases affecting the population
• Educate the population about adequate diet and nutrition

The latest Fiji STEPS Survey found that adults in Fiji consume an average of 9.7g of salt per day which is almost double the World Health Organization recommended amount of 5g per day.

Small changes can make a big difference:
- Use more natural flavours and less salt
- Reduce salty processed foods and sauces

NFNC Team was excited to collaborate with World Food Programme Pacific Office to conduct our training as part of the International Women's Day celebration. The training directly aligned with and themes by recognizing women’s leadership in food security and nutrition, while equipping staff with practical skills to initiate home gardens. The activity highlighted the importance of investing in knowledge and capacity, advancing justice and equity, and accelerating progress toward resilient, sustainable communities.
