But that’s not the case.

A Pilates reformer is a highly specialized piece of apparatus that needs:
🛠️ Regular maintenance and servicing
🙋🏽‍♀️ An expert onboard who knows how to work it and teach on it

The dream of teaching Pilates on yachts is real 🤩

But the truth is, only a small handful of people will ever have the opportunity to step onto (or teach Pilates) on a superyacht.

Yachting is a relationships business, built on years of trust and inner know-how.

It’s mostly through referrals, word of mouth and reputation that me and my team get work teaching onboard.

And even then, there’s a lot of paperwork and hard work behind the scenes to make it all happen! Background checks, sometimes hundreds of emails, NDAs, interviews and a heap of hoops to jump through.

🤫 There’s a harsh reality most Pilates teachers won’t dare to admit…

🤫 They’re actually not making very good money…

That’s not my limiting belief.
It’s a fact.

Over my 12-years of teaching Pilates and owning studios in the South of France and Sweden, I’ve seen first hand:

1️⃣ How shore-based Pilates teachers and yachties who move ashore struggle to make proper money (or even minimum wage).

2️⃣ How studio owners struggle to pay their teachers (and themselves) well.

⏰ At its heart, the Pilates business model is built around exchanging time for money.

And while the new group reformer business model is more exciting financially and growing globally (with people like Raphael Bender and Christa Gurka - Fitness+Wellness Business Coach coaching people on how to do it), it takes a lot of the right ingredients to pull off and make a success in the long term. (And usually, the ones who really make it financially are those who build their studios and sell).

💸🛥️ This is where yachting comes in.

When you start adding Pilates to your skillset on yachts, you get an instant head start financially and more doors open.

On top of the chance to experience amazing places and meet inspiring people from around the world. 🌍

It’s not a silver bullet, and it’s definitely not easy…

💸 But teaching Pilates on yachts is a step in the right direction if you’re wanting to make Pilates your ultimate career.

If I could do it all again, I’d have saved up more whilst working onboard before choosing to move ashore and teach Pilates land-based.

After seeing more than 10 yachts with Pilates reformers onboard at the Monaco Yacht Show and speaking to a number of crew about Pilates onboard, I’ve walked away with some really interesting insights...
..From rust and storage to safety at sea, equipment choices and the growing interest from crew to study Pilates themselves 💖

One thing that really stood out: Pilates reformers aren’t just something yacht guests are asking for. Crew are using them too, and increasingly looking at how they can bring Pilates into their careers onboard.

💎 Drinking diamond Vodka for the very first time Chopin Vodka (loved the Family Reserve blend!)

🛥️ Getting to be onboard more than a number of the world’s most iconic yachts (and also acknowledge the hard working crew who’ve just finished a long season, and gone into the biggest, most demanding yacht show of the year. Every single one of you are amazing 🫶🏽🌟)

♥️ Enjoying time at work (and play) with my man

🦆 Bringing my ‘Fortune Duck’ bag to the show. In a world of unbelievable materialism, this bag reminds me to keep my feet on the ground and not care too much about my belongings (my dad hitchhiked through Africa with it when he was 19)

🤩 Seeing my man at work!

🌖 Having a moment of peace watching the waxing moon onboard MY Amica Mea at the Northrop & Johnson | Yacht Sales | Yacht Charter party.🧡Amazing canapés and drinks and I met such interesting & inspiring people.

👠 My one shoe breaking just before I met VIP guests!! 😂 Then hooking up a pair of slippers (thanks to the kind Woman who saved me) and then changing over to my trainers 👟

👯‍♀️ Walking and going for an early morning swim in Nice with one of my best friends who I’d not seen in years!
