Renewing your first visa? Don’t forget about your driving licence! 🚗🇫🇷

If your non-EU driving licence is eligible for exchange, the application generally needs to be submitted within your first 12 months of residency in France. So, by the time you start renewing your first visa, your driving licence exchange deadline may already be approaching!

The exact rules depend on the country or US state that issued your licence, so don’t leave it until the last minute.

Temporary social security number received… now what? 🇫🇷

First: don’t panic! If you’ve received an attestation de droits, your French healthcare rights are already open, even with a temporary social security number and no Carte Vitale.

Behind the scenes, your documents and details are being checked. Once your number is permanently certified, you should receive a new attestation de droits, allowing you to apply for your Carte Vitale - either online through Ameli or using a form sent by post.

💶 Can your finances be considered jointly for a French visa if you’re not married or PACS’d?

Potentially, yes! 🇫🇷

If you live together and can show that your lives and finances are genuinely intertwined — for example, through a joint bank account, shared bills and proof of living together — the consulate may consider your overall financial situation as a couple.

However, it isn’t automatic, and the evidence you provide really matters.

⏳ Still waiting to hear back from a French administration service?

Whether it’s the préfecture, CPAM, CAF, ANTS or another French administrative service, if you’ve submitted documents or started an application and still haven’t received any news, don’t panic, it’s not personal!

Your dossier is simply sitting in a very long queue, waiting for its turn to be checked. Delays are incredibly common, so hang in there and try to be patient…although we know that’s easier said than done! 😅

However, they may have kept you waiting for weeks or even months, but as soon as they reply, don’t wait and don’t play them at their own game! Respond as quickly as possible, especially if they request additional documents, as you may only have a limited amount of time to provide them.

🇫🇷 Completing an online application? Take your time when uploading your documents 📄

We know how tempting it is to rush through an online application once you finally have everything ready but taking an extra few minutes to check your documents could help you avoid unnecessary delays down the line.

Make sure the entire page is visible, the text is clear, nothing is cropped and there are no shadows or glare. Remember to include every required page too!

Whenever possible, use a scanner or scanning app, and always open each file to check it before submitting.

A little extra care at the beginning could save you a lot of time later! 🇫🇷

🚨 RUNNING A BUSINESS IN FRANCE? FACTURATION ÉLECTRONIQUE IS COMING!

From 1 September 2026, every business in France (regardless of its size) must be able to receive electronic invoices through an approved platform.

From the same date, large companies and medium-sized businesses must also issue their invoices electronically.

From 1 September 2027, this obligation to issue electronic invoices will be extended to small businesses and micro-entrepreneurs.

But what actually counts as an electronic invoice?

For transactions between businesses established in France, the invoice must be created in an approved format and sent through a plateforme agréée. A PDF attached to an email will not be enough.

What about private clients?

👤 Invoices for private individuals do not need to be sent through the electronic invoicing system. However, the business may still need to transmit information about these transactions to the tax authorities through e-reporting.

What should you do now?

✅ Choose a registered plateforme agréée
✅ Make sure your business details and SIREN are correct
✅ Speak to your accountant if you are unsure how the rules apply to your activity
✅ Contact us if you need help getting set up 😊

There’s no need to panic, but don’t leave it until the last minute either!

🇫🇷 Confused about the new civic & language exam requirements? Let’s break it down 👇

Depending on the residence permit you’re applying for, the requirements are different:

🔹 Multi-year residence card (carte de séjour pluriannuelle)
You’ll need to pass:
🗣️ A2 French language level
🇫🇷 Civic exam

🔹 10-year residence card (carte de résident)
You’ll need to pass:
🗣️ B1 French language level
🇫🇷 Civic exam

🔹 French citizenship 🇫🇷
You’ll need to pass:
🗣️ B2 French language level
🇫🇷 Civic exam

⚠️ There are, of course, some exemptions and exceptions, but for the majority of applicants, these are the new requirements.

🇫🇷 The French administration loves a paper trail, especially when it comes to your name!

If you’ve married, divorced or changed your name, be prepared to prove every step with official documents.

This could include:

💍 Marriage certificates
💔 Divorce judgments
👶 Birth certificates
✍️ Official name-change documents
🌍 Apostilles and certified French translations

If the name on your birth certificate doesn’t match your passport or other documents, don’t ignore it. Even if you’ve used the same name for years, the French authorities may still ask you to document the connection.

Our tip? Before relocating, gather official copies of all documents showing your birth, marriages, divorces and name change, and check whether newly issued, apostilled or translated versions will be required for your particular application.

Preparing your paper trail early can save a lot of time later! 🇫🇷📂
