Herb of the week — Elderberry
Trom — Sambucus nigra

She’s turned dark now. The elderflower lace of early summer has given way to heavy black clusters, bowing the branches over hedgerows and old boundaries all across Ireland.

Elder has always held a strange, respected place here. She was known as a fairy tree (a portal, some said) and cutting one down without asking first was considered bad luck. Not a tree to take lightly.

🍇 The berries are one of the richest sources of vitamin C in the hedgerow, traditionally simmered into syrups for winter colds and flu
🍇 Raw berries and stems are not safe to eat — they need to be cooked first, always
🍇 Elder appears in the ogham alphabet, marked by the letter Ruis
🍇 Birds strip the berries fast this time of year, so if you’re gathering, leave plenty behind

Mats in the grass as the light went gold. Tea and toast around a long table. Sea swims, sandy feet, arms around each other on the beach.

You can’t add more days to your life. But you can add more life to your days.

That’s what this summer was. For me and for every woman who showed up to breathe, stretch, rest and be met exactly as she was.

Thank you for trusting me with your time. For the laughter, the quiet moments, the courage it takes to show up for yourself.

Already dreaming up what’s next. 🌾

What a Season of Wellness & Adventure we have had

Our day retreats on Irelands Eye, Dublin & our 4 day retreats on Inis Oirr, Galway were a celebration of sisterhood, wildness, intention & the safe feeling of ‘coming home’

A massive thank you to all who collaborated with me - magic happens when we all polish each others crowns ✨

We will launch our waitlist for our Inis Oirr retreats 2027 at the end of September.

Our Irelands Eye Adventuee dates will be launched shortly after that

With love
Deb ❤️

NEW SERVICE!

From the 1st of September I’ll be seeing people 1:1 in Dublin.
Thursdays, at River Holistic in Raheny.

Fascia is the web that holds everything together. It can hold onto tension too, the kind that stretching alone doesn’t reach. A session is hands-on and unhurried, working with the body to help it soften and let go of what it’s been carrying.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, tight, or just not quite in your body lately, this might be for you.

Thursdays · River Holistic, Raheny

Only €70 for the month of September (€150 after that)
Book via DM directly with me or call River Holistic - 01 8310888

"To love a place is not enough. We must find ways to heal it."
— Robin Wall Kimmerer

This is what lies underneath everything I do - the yoga, the herb walks, the retreats.

Loving the land is the easy part, learning to tend it and to let it tend us back, is the actual work.

We’re back from the island and still very much in it.

4 days on Inis Oírr with this group gave us more than we know how to put into words yet, so we’re not going to rush it.

More soon.

For now, just gratitude.

You don't need a retreat, to wait for retirement, or a diagnosis to justify resting.

You're allowed to lie down in the afternoon. You're allowed to leave the laundry. You're allowed to want something just for yourself, with no one else attached to it.

That's not selfish. It's maintenance.

🌿 Herb of the week - Meadowsweet Airgead luachra — Filipendula ulmaria

You'll smell her before you see her. That almond and honey scent drifting off a ditch or riverbank in late summer, that's meadowsweet in full froth right now across the Irish countryside.

Her Irish name, airgead luachra, means "silver rush", a nod to the silvery underside of her leaves and to the wet, rushy ground she loves.

A few things I love about her:

🌿 She's one of three herbs the druids considered sacred, alongside vervain and water mint

🌿 Chemists once isolated salicylic acid from her buds, the compound that gave aspirin its name, long before it came in a tablet

🌿 She was traditionally scattered on floors and strewn at handfastings, which is where the old name "bridewort" comes from

🌿 She flowers from June right through to September, so there's still time to find her

Next time you catch that sweet, almondy smell near a wet field or a riverbank, you'll know who's there.
