Two decades of fear around hormone therapy stemmed from a single 2002 study using outdated formulations (conjugated equine estrogen) in older women. Low-dose vaginal 17-beta estradiol—structurally identical to human estrogen—shows *zero increased risk of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, or clotting* in extensive recent data.
A 2025 analysis of almost 19,000 breast cancer patients actually showed *improved survival* with vaginal estrogen use. The clinical gap between safety evidence and prescribing practice is widening.
