You are the flap of the butterfly’s wings that caused the winds of change. I’m so grateful that my daughter got to see you in the flesh just this summer at Minnetta Lane. Few things have left me feeling so proud as a mother, to have given her that moment. We got to hear readings of your letters to lovers that you had throughout your life and we sat two rows away, watching your face beam with love. You said that they all became your family. Your incredibly long, graceful hands gesticulating as you told the stories of your younger self, the kindness you felt for her. The way you showed us all how to love ourselves first, fiercely, the butterflies flapping without ceasing inside our hearts. The rhythm of all of our wings flapping together, in time, throughout all time. Thank you, Gloria. Rest in peace. 🌸💕🌸
