“I am not my trauma.”
Something Mizhelle understood only after leaving home: growing up in a violent household, her nervous system felt like it was always under attack. 🤍
When you’ve lived like that, safety doesn’t feel natural at first. Calm can feel unfamiliar. And running can start to feel like the only thing you know how to do.
Now she’s learning something different. She’s learning not to run away anymore, and to start building a life.
That’s the part we don’t always talk about. Leaving is one chapter, but staying with yourself afterward, and slowly choosing to build, is another, and it takes just as much courage. There’s no timeline for it and no “right” way to heal. Some days it’s brave, some days it’s just showing up.
Thank you, Mizhelle, for sharing this so honestly with the NomadHer community. Your words will make someone else feel less alone.
If this resonates with you, you’re not alone either. Share it with a woman who might need to hear it today. 💬
