What better place to connect to your Wild Self than Cumbria and the Lake District. Cumbria is defined by its dramatic and elemental landscape, from deep glacial lakes to craggy peaks. It is a place where wild beauty and cultural heritage meet, making it one of the most striking holiday destinations in England. Here are a few practitioners in the Lake District who can help you find your wild self this summer holiday.

Jen Maxwell | Empowering Women to RISE of Lakeland Wellbeing is a fire-walking guide and empowerment coach who works with the cycles of nature and the moon to bring about deep transformation. Based in the heart of the Lake District, she hosts wild woman retreats and full moon circles, helping you step into your power and awaken your soul’s fullest expression.

Mikaela Korth at Drybeck Retreat Drybeck Farm Glamping near Carlisle offers a private forest sanctuary for meditation, sound therapy, and forest bathing. It is a perfect spot for those seeking stillness and rejuvenation during their summer break, providing equinox events and nature-based art sessions among the trees.

Experience the unique flow of paddleboard therapy across the Lake District with Stephen from standtall.org.uk. By bringing together movement and stillness on the water, he helps you find grounding and ease anxiety in a natural way. It is a powerful example of how holiday activities can become restorative therapeutic journeys.

With over thirty years of experience, Gilly Thirlwell of avaniyoga.co.uk leads nature-based courses and wilderness rites of passage in the North Pennines. From guided visualisations to four-day vision quests, her work is designed to help you cross the threshold and return home with a clearer vision for your life.

Image consulting was my thing in the 80s and 90s (that’s a young me top left). But even then I didn’t go near the rhetoric that talked about ‘colouring me beautiful’. I didn’t do it to flog lipstick, or to make people wear three co-ordinated colours at all times. What I cared deeply about, and still do, is helping you understand who you are, and understand what happens when other people look at you.

I help you make sense of the reactions you elicit. Do people ignore you or talk over you, treat you like you don’t matter or aren’t important? Or when you open your mouth do they listen? Do you get treated with respect? Is it on some occasions and not others? Do you feel like ‘you’ whatever the occasion? ‘You’ when you go out to work, or when you have to dress up for an event, or go for a country walk. I help women be more themselves, then dress it, and in doing so I help them be more authentic and hence visible.

I give you the secret weapon so that when you walk into a meeting everyone thinks ‘she looks like she’ll know what she’s talking about.’ I can show you how to never get pushed in front of ever again. Because what we choose wear speaks 100 times louder than anything you say and do. We might write engaging copy for our instagram, have years of training under our belt, do hours of networking, but if your clothes say ‘please ignore me’ or ‘I don’t count’ you are sabotaging yourself in the most profound way possible.

If any of this resonates please join me on my next Mirror Course in France this October. We will explore the psychology of dress, the language of clothes, and the messages you are giving. We will do a deep dive into what it is you want to say and then I will show you exactly how to do it.

It will also give you:

👗 Time. You’ll spend LESS time shopping (yes you read that right!)

💰Save £££ on clothes (think about all those things you buy and never wear)

👖Have so much more space in your wardrobe but never look in it and think ‘I’ve nothing to wear’.

😩Save time and stress choosing what to wear for important meetings, dates or special occasions.

⭐️ And if my clients are anything to go by: earn more. They have found they can charge more or

Did you know that connecting with nature is as important as your income when it comes to life satisfaction?

A major new national survey in Australia has revealed some mind-blowing stats about our relationship with the wild:

✨ People with the highest levels of nature connection are 4.6 times more likely to report high life satisfaction.
✨ They are also nearly twice as likely to have a high overall quality of life.
✨ It’s not just about « getting outside »—connecting cognitively and emotionally, such as by observing nature through a window, can boost your wellbeing.

The research shows that nature connection isn’t just a « nice to have »—it’s a fundamental pillar of our health, relationships, and future security.

This is exactly why I wrote Wild Self. 📖✨

While the researchers are calling for policy changes, you can start your own journey today.. Wild Self is designed to help you move beyond just « spending time » outdoors and into a deep, soulful connection with the natural world—the kind of connection that science now proves is essential for a flourishing life.

Ready to invest in the « wealth » that actually matters?

Happy Summer Solstice! ☀️ Today marks the longest day and the shortest night of the year, a powerful time on the Celtic Medicine Wheel dedicated to honouring the sun and the fullness of life.
In shamanic tradition, the South quadrant represents action, community, and the vibrant energy of mature adulthood. It is the season to make hay while the sun shines, celebrating our worldly successes and setting intentions for the essential things we need to thrive—like our homes, jobs, and survival.
Here are a few ways to celebrate today, inspired by the traditions in my book Wild Self:
Light a Fire: Whether it is a bonfire to watch the sunrise or lighting a gathering of candles at home, use the element of fire to express gratitude for the returning light.
Chase the Sunset: Find a beautiful spot to watch the sun go down. If you are in the South East, head to Margate for some of the loveliest skies in Europe.
Bring the Wild In: Harvest oak or birch leaves—both associated with Midsummer—to decorate your seasonal table or altar.
Salute the Sun: Face South during your morning meditation or practice a sequence of yoga sun salutations to align your energy with the solar peak.
Practice Reciprocity: Shamanic wisdom is built on the balance of give and take. Today is a perfect day to thank the men in your life for their support or make an offering of food or a prayer to the land.
To heal ourselves and our society, we must first go outside. How are you connecting with the land today? 🌿✨
