The French Retreat

The French Retreat A place to get away from it all and find yourself: Yoga, Relationship Coaching, Family Constellations

Among the fields and vineyards of South Charente, The French Retreat is made up of an old manor house (maison de maitre), and a number of converted barns. It was designed to host workshops, events and courses which make the world a better place. We have capacity for 22 people in twin rooms and our food is highly acclaimed. There's a seasonal outdoor pool, table tennis and free Wi-Fi access. When w

e don't have courses on you can rent individual rooms as B&B/Chambre d'hote. The rooms are uniquely decorated in antiques and local brocante finds. South Charente varies between vineyards, wooded heath land and hills bordering Perigord. The gastronomic traditions of Pineau, foie gras, snails, and cognac are very much in evidence. With forest ponds, Romanesque churches castles, craft customs, gastronomic curiosities this region delights the senses. For the active there is riding, kayaking, river swimming, mountain bike trails and beautiful walks within easy reach.

And we’re off.. our annual Hoffman Process UK summer retreat started last night, with another group of brave, beautiful souls here to become aware of and shift unhelpful patterns, uncover what gets in the way living their best lives, reconnect to their hearts and spirits, and vision their positive futures. Facilitated by with Emma Pruen, supported by nature and held by the French Retreat team it’s already looking like it will be a life changing week.

In spite of the alarming headlines about travel, there are still lots of options for getting to the French Retreat. Here are some options for a week next month.

EasyJet London Luton-Bordeaux

EasyJet Bristol-Bordeaux

Ryan Air Stansted-Bergerac (return flight currently £79)

Ryan Air Bristol-Bergerac on 11 June-18 June - the return flight is currently £64

For the environmentally friendly option the Eurostar is a great option for Londoners.

St Pancras-Gare du Nord on Eurostar 9.31-12.59

Take Metro Line 4 from Gare Du Nord to Montparnasse (direction Mairie de Montrouge). The 14 stops takes 20-25 minutes. The typical total transfer time, from stepping off the Eurostar at the Gare Du Nord to being on the concourse at Montparnasse is 40-45 minutes (unless you stop for croissant).

From Paris Montparnasse to Chalais (change Angouleme) 14.10-17.14.

Our local train station is Chalais. We offer a free shuttle service from Chalais and it’s 5 minutes to the French Retreat.

For anyone arriving by train you can check in at any time on the start day for a gentle start (an extra pool time).

We can also arrange airport transfers from Bordeaux or Bergerac airport (or advise on public transport).

All trains can be booked on the UK trainline app/thetrainline.com

At The French Retreat we’ve built a sanctuary for the parts of you that have been neglected. Whether you need to:
• Unplug from the digital noise and reconnect with nature.
• Recharge your creative batteries in the heart of France.
• Rediscover your rhythm through guided stillness and intentional community.
This isn’t just a holiday; it’s a homecoming. It’s the deep breath you’ve been waiting to take.
🕊️ The Details
Luxury meets simplicity. Think morning mist over the hills, farm-to-table nourishment, and the kind of quiet that actually lets you think.
The world will wait. Your well-being won’t.
Ready to find your centre?

Baba Ganoush (which translates as ‘a hug from daddy’) is a French Retreat favourite - and we are very, very picky about it. Here’s the secret: to get the fabulous smoky flavour the aubergines have to be cooked to within an inch of their lives over wood, and decent tahini is a must. If you don’t have the authentic stuff from an Arabic shop the only good high street variety is from . Any questions just drop a comment and we’ll be straight back to you!

Happy Easter. Our regular Easter retreat booking has moved on to pastures new, so if you would like to be hosting a retreat here next Easter this space could be yours. For every one of the 13 Easters we have spent at the French Retreat there hasn’t been one where we haven’t been able to enjoy a long lunch sitting outside in our shirt sleeves. How has the weather been where you are? france
