Have you ever noticed yourself taking a long, deep breath during reflexology, even though you weren’t consciously trying to?

At the beginning of a session, your breathing may still be quite quick or shallow. As you become comfortable, feel less distracted and realise that nothing is expected of you for the next while, it may begin to soften naturally.

When we are busy, worried or rushing, the body can remain in a more alert state. As we begin to relax, the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system becomes more active. This is the part associated with rest, recovery and settling after stress.

Reflexology gives you a period of stillness, supportive touch and focused attention, away from phones, jobs and everyday demands. For some people, that environment makes it easier to unwind, and a change in breathing may simply be one of the ways that relaxation shows itself. Some studies have recorded changes in heart-rate variability following foot reflexology or foot massage, suggesting possible short-term changes in autonomic activity.

As reflexologists, we often notice the moment a client releases a long breath or lets out a little sigh. We don’t see it as something they need to make happen. It is simply a lovely sign that they may be feeling more comfortable and allowing themselves to settle.

Not everyone’s breathing changes, and there is no “correct” way to respond to a treatment. Some people become very still, some chat for a while, and others take most of the session to properly relax. All of that is completely normal.

You don’t need to concentrate on your breathing or try to switch off. Just get comfortable and let your body find its own rhythmn.

🧠 A Historic Milestone for Reflexology! 🏆
We are beyond excited to announce that Dr. Stefan Posse will be presenting groundbreaking fMRI research — “Neural Pathways of Applied Reflexology” — at the prestigious International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) annual conference in Cape Town, South Africa!
ISMRM represents 6,000–8,000 neuroscientists and MRI researchers from around the globe — making this one of the most significant scientific audiences reflexology has ever reached.
This is the second time reflexology research has been brought to a stage of this caliber, bridging the worlds of complementary therapy and cutting-edge neuroimaging. Dr. Posse’s work is a profound validation of what our community has believed for decades.
Please share this announcement — the more we amplify this moment, the greater the impact! 🌍🙌

Good morning from a snowed up Fittie!! Very beautiful but not so easy to walk about in.
My poor studio has suffered a bit of damage due to the weight of the snow on the roof.
I will not be re-opening till at least the 15th of January for safety reasons.

I am so looking forward to 2026 with Sea and Soul. New treatment schedules and new learning ahead.

I hope all my clients past and present are staying safe and warm. Xx

Best wishes Dorothy xx

URGENT APPEAL – We need carrier bags!

We are currently packing our Christmas food parcels at Somebody Cares and we are running very low on carrier bags. If anyone has spare bags at home, supermarket bags, strong carriers, or reusable bags we would be so grateful for your help.

You can drop them off at Somebody Cares HQ in Altens or our shop in Bridge of Don during our opening hours that would be much appreciated.
Every bag helps us get food to individuals and families in need this Christmas. ❤️

Thank you so much for your support!
