⚠️ Know the Signs: Meningitis & Septicaemia
Meningitis and septicaemia are serious, life-threatening conditions that can develop quickly, and early symptoms can often be mistaken for common illnesses like flu.
Being aware of the signs and acting quickly can save lives.
Early symptoms may include:
• Fever, headaches, vomiting
• Muscle aches and cold hands/feet
• Fatigue or drowsiness
As the illness progresses, symptoms can become more severe, including:
• Stiff neck and sensitivity to light
• Confusion or difficulty staying awake
• Rapid breathing
• A rash that does not fade under pressure (glass test)
⏱️ These conditions can worsen within hours, so it’s vital to seek medical help urgently if symptoms escalate.
At OccuHealth Consultancy, we’re committed to raising awareness of serious health conditions and supporting workplace wellbeing through education and early intervention.
If in doubt, get checked out. Early treatment can be life-saving.

🚭 𝗡𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 – 𝟭𝟭 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵

𝗡𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆 takes place every year on the 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, encouraging smokers to take the first step toward a smoke-free future.

Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you can do for your health. From the moment you stop, your body begins to repair itself, improving breathing, circulation, and reducing the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, and lung disease.

For employers, supporting smoking cessation can have a positive impact on workplace wellbeing by:
✔ Improving employee health and energy levels
✔ Reducing sickness absence
✔ Creating a healthier work environment for everyone

No Smoking Day is a great opportunity to start the conversation about lung health and encourage those who want to quit to access support and resources.

At OccuHealth Consultancy, we’re passionate about supporting healthier workplaces and promoting long-term wellbeing.

As we head into flu season, it’s important to understand the difference between seasonal influenza and COVID, both respiratory illnesses, but caused by different viruses and with some key differences employers and employees should know.

𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝘂
• Caused by influenza viruses
• Symptoms usually appear 1–4 days after exposure
• Sudden onset of fever, body aches, chills, fatigue, sore throat, and cough
• Most people recover in about a week, but it can be serious for vulnerable groups

𝗖𝗢𝗩𝗜𝗗
• Caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus
• Symptoms typically develop 2–14 days after exposure
• Can include fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, and muscle aches
• Illness can range from mild to severe and may have longer-lasting effects (“long COVID”)

✅ 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁: While symptoms overlap, COVID often includes changes to taste and smell and can have a longer incubation period. Testing is the only way to confirm which virus is present.

💉 Vaccination remains one of the best defences against both flu and COVID, protecting not only individuals but the wider workplace too.

At OccuHealth Consultancy, we offer onsite flu vaccination clinics and workplace health support to help keep your team safe and well this winter.

🩸 September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month 🩸

This month, we shine a light on the lives affected by blood cancers, including leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Blood cancers can affect anyone, at any age, and awareness is key to early detection and support.

Did you know?
Blood cancer is the most common cancer in children and teenagers.
Symptoms can be subtle, including fatigue, unexplained bruising, or persistent infections.

Early diagnosis can save lives.

How you can help:
✅ Learn the signs and symptoms.
✅ Support local blood cancer charities.
✅ Encourage loved ones to check their health regularly.

Together, we can raise awareness, support research, and save lives.
