What Happens When You Quit?

🚭 What happens when you stop va**ng?

Quitting va**ng means breaking your body’s dependence on ni****ne. You may notice some withdrawal symptoms along the way.

You may experience:
😣 Irritability
🧠 Difficulty concentrating
😴 Changes in sleep
🍫 Increased appetite
💭 Strong cravings to v**e

These symptoms can be uncomfortable, but are temporary.

The important thing is not to mistake a craving for a need. A craving will pass, even if it feels intense at the time.

Whether you’ve been va**ng for a few months or a few years, quitting can feel difficult but you don’t have to do it alone.

Ni****ne is addictive, so cravings and withdrawal are completely normal.

💡 Some things that can help:
• Pick a quit date for stopping
• Identify your triggers
• Keep busy when cravings hit
• Have something else to reach for, like water or sugar-free chewing gum
• Get support rather than trying to do it all yourself

Overdose Awareness Day is also about reducing stigma and reminding people that help is available.

💊 Naloxone can save a life.
Naloxone is a medicine that can temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and give someone time to receive emergency medical treatment.

If you or someone you know may be at risk of opioid overdose, speak to your local pharmacy or drug and alcohol service about accessing take-home naloxone.

🚨 If you suspect an overdose, call 999 immediately and follow the emergency operator’s instructions.

🚨 How to recognise a ketamine overdose or medical emergency

Call 999 immediately if someone has:

• Difficulty waking or cannot be woken
• Slow, irregular or stopped breathing
• Blue, grey or very pale lips or skin
• Choking, gurgling or unusual breathing sounds
• Lost consciousness

🚨 Do not leave them alone. Stay with them and follow the instructions given by the emergency services.

⚠️ Use ketamine? Here are ways to reduce the risks ⚠️

Illegal drugs sold on the street can contain unexpected substances or vary in strength. Do you really know what you’re taking?

❓ Is it actually ketamine, or could it contain something else?
You cannot reliably know the contents or strength of an illicit drug.

❌ AVOID MIXING ketamine with other drugs, particularly alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids or other depressants.

👥 DON’T USE ALONE. If you choose to use ketamine, have someone you trust around who can get help if something goes wrong.

🚨 If someone becomes unconscious, cannot be woken, has a seizure or is having difficulty breathing, call 999 immediately.
