And it’s not just anger that we cling to. Worry, resentment, anxiety, guilt all convince us they’re serving a purpose and we hold onto them because part of us believes they’re keeping us safe, protecting us, or helping us stay in control. But often, they’re just weighing us down.
Holding on to anger is like holding a hot coal with the intention of throwing it at someone else. We’re the ones who get burned first. And the same can be true of worry and resentment. The tighter we grip them, the more they consume our energy, our peace, and our ability to enjoy the life that’s happening right now.
Letting go doesn’t mean becoming a doormat. It doesn’t mean pretending everything is wonderful or chasing happiness every minute of every day. For me, it’s about contentment.
That gentle, steady sense of peace that comes when we stop carrying things that no longer serve us. Lighter hearts. Softer minds. Calmer days. That’s what I wish for myself, and for the people I love.
So, is there something you’ve decided you’re ready to let go of?
