Alpaca shearing.
Well it is nothing like sheep shearing!
đŚ Ever wondered how an alpaca is sheared?
Alpacas are usually sheared once a year, typically in early summer to help keep them comfortable during the summer (đ¤we get one!)
The alpaca is hobbled and restrained on a mat while the shearer uses electric clippers to remove the fleece. The process is quick, safe, and usually takes just 10 minutes per animal.
The finest fleece comes from the alpacaâs back and sides, while fibre from the neck, legs, and belly is sorted separately for different uses.
Shearing day is also a great opportunity for routine health checks, nail trimming, and sometimes teeth trimming.
Once finished, the alpaca is up and about straight awayâalthough they do look much smaller without their fluffy coats! đ
