โ๏ธ Piercings in the heat โ๏ธ
Heat can negatively affect your piercings! Hereโs how to keep them happy ๐
โ๏ธ Avoid sunburn.
For healing piercings: use shade, NOT sun lotion. Think parasols, breathable clothing, big floppy sun hats, etc. For well healed piercings: shade and/or sun lotion.
โ๏ธ Avoid swimming or submerging new piercings for 8 weeks.
Unclean water (sea, lakes, rivers, swimming pools) can cause infection or irritation. If you do go in, please use your sterile saline as soon as you get out.
๐ Paddleboards & kayaks are a great way to enjoy the water without getting in it! (Local to Aber and donโt have your own board or kayak? I highly recommend Aberoutdoors โ Watersport Experiences & Rentals | Wales for rentals!)
โ๏ธ Look out for extra swelling.
Heat causes our bodies to swell. So does the change in air pressure on airplanes (going on holiday?) Cold compresses can help. If you have longer / larger jewellery, keep it to hand or take it abroad with you in case itโs needed.
โ๏ธ Stay hydrated.
Your body needs to be healthy, hydrated and well-fuelled to heal. Remember to drink water!
Bonus tip: snack on hydrating foods like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, etc.
โ๏ธ Take your aftercare on holiday.
Flights, travel, changes in climate and water can all affect your healing piercings. Take your saline with you and stay consistent with cleaning. I also recommend taking your tapers and any spare jewellery bits with you in case of any jewellery emergencies.
๐ค Happy heatwave, and happy healing! โ๏ธ๐ค
