Good listening is good care. Because being seen, heard and understood can be just as powerful as being supported during daily tasks.

For Renu, being a companion and listening to her customers' stories is what makes what she does so fulfilling.

Sometimes, it's simply being there and treating them with dignity and respect that makes all the difference. Each one of us has a unique journey through life, from its ups and downs and special story to tell.

She says: “Their strength and positive attitude, even during difficult times, inspire me every day. They have taught me that sometimes the best way to support someone is simply by being there, listening, and treating them with dignity and respect.”

Mrs VL, at 102, is as jolly as ever. When we asked her for a wish we could fulfil to make her day even better, she wanted a delicious home cooked meal.

Kayley and Bibi went shopping and cooked for her as they enjoyed some Elvis tunes. Good company, music she loves, and a warm meal were all Mrs VL needed to make her feel special. And for us, there is no better sight than seeing our customers happy and smiling.

Mrs VL has had 70 years of lovely memories in her house. From raising her son to the companionship of her husband, she’s made this house a home. We’re so glad to create some new memories with her in the familiar kitchen she’s cooked countless meals in.

Because there’s nothing like home.

We always ask our customers for one wish we could fulfil for them. For Mr AB, it was a box of his favourite chocolates, Milk Trays.

It’s a small request, but it means the world to Mr AB.

Before health issues made him slow down, he led an active life volunteering in the local community, playing bridge and going on cruises. While his mobility is limited, we wanted to make sure he could still enjoy some of the things that make him happy. A box of treats and a chat was just the thing he wanted.

Our carers always take time to understand each customer’s unique needs, likes and abilities so that care can be built around the individual. We listen and deliver comfort and joy, in whatever form possible.

Life keeps moving, and so should you.

It’s National Arthritis Week today, and we’re sharing a few tips to keep your joints active and healthy.

🚶 Keep Moving: short daily walks or light stretching maintains strength.
♨️ Use Heat and Cold for Comfort: cold packs stop swelling and heat packs relax stiff joints.
🔧 Make Daily Tasks Easier: use tools like jar opens and break tasks into smaller steps.
💭Ask for Support When You Need It: joint pains can be tiring, ask friends or family for help with daily tasks.

When we asked Mr TM what wish we could fulfil for him, he said a walk in his favourite garden centre.

Being partially sighted, he usually only managed a visit to the garden centre coffee shop and was keen to enjoy Wisley Gardens () for an outing.

Together with his carer Renu, we arranged to hire the free electric visitor assistance vehicle for him so the trip would be enjoyable.

Mr TM relived some of his fondest memories listening to the ducks and having coffee by the pond on a sunny day. Renu was with him and ensured he didn’t have to worry about finding his way around, so he could simply enjoy being present in the moment.

That’s why we always ask our customers about the things that bring them joy. It often takes small steps to bring them happiness. Our carers carefully plan ahead, understanding each person’s challenges so they can explore the world out there.
