I’ve seen SO many posts recently in the wellness space that have made me think about this.
Posts about being fed up seeing fluffy mics or people filming their yoga practice. Opinions on people posting workouts, what people eat, whether someone can do a headstand, asana vs philosophy, where someone is on their spiritual journey, why they go on retreats, what they offer, who they trained with or how many YTT hours they have.
And I just keep thinking
Why do we care so much about what everyone else is doing?
Some of it is a joke. Some is indirect. Some is dressed up as an opinion or discussion. But underneath it, there can still be judgement.
And in a space that talks so much about acceptance, self-awareness and personal growth, I think that’s worth thinking about.
Who cares if someone loves their fluffy mic? Who cares if they film their practice? Who cares if they love Asana more than philosophy or vice versa? Who cares if they’ve changed direction ten times or offer ten different things?
Let people find their own way.
Yoga is personal. We learn. We explore. We change. We grow. What resonates with me might not resonate with you, and that’s okay.
Your yoga doesn’t have to look like my yoga. Your wellness doesn’t have to look like mine. Your journey is yours.
And really, all I’m saying is, be kind. Always.
Social media already brings enough judgement, comparison and pressure into people’s lives.
If the wellness space isn’t somewhere people can feel welcomed, loved and supported exactly where they are, then where is?
Spread love. Spread light. Support people. It’s that simple.
Let’s not turn the wellness space into another toxic environment where people feel they have to be a certain way to belong.
And if something completely harmless that someone else is doing bothers us, maybe that’s our opportunity to look inward and ask why.
Stay connected to your own why and let other people have theirs.
