Your weak points won’t improve if they’re always an afterthought.

I’m nine weeks into my muscle building phase, and my side delts were an area I wanted to bring up.

So they became a priority in my programming.

It’s easy to keep training the muscles you enjoy, then throw a few sets at your weaker areas at the end and hope they catch up.

But wanting something to improve and having a plan to improve it are two different things.

Proper programming gives that goal a place in your week. Then you need to deliver controlled reps, consistent effort and progression over time.

Still building. Still work to do.

If you’ve got a muscle group that keeps lagging behind, ask yourself

Does your programme actually prioritise it, or do you just wish it would grow?

What’s the ONE muscle group you want to bring up? Tell me below 👇

Ask any coach these two questions before you pay them.

One. What do you need from me before you write my plan? If the answer is not much, you already know what you are getting.

Two. What actually happens every week? Not what is included on a graphic. What happens. Who looks at what you did, what comes back, and when.

Those two answers tell you more than any before and after photo on their page. Photos tell you somebody got a result. Those questions tell you whether you will.

Ask them of me too. I will answer both.

DON’T PULL WITH YOUR BACK.

One mistake with Romanian deadlifts is trying to lift the weight by cranking the lower back instead of driving the movement through the hips.

Think: hips back on the way down, hips forward to stand up.

• Keep a soft bend in your knees.
• Brace your trunk before lowering.
• Push your hips back and keep the bar close to your legs.
• Control the descent, loading your hamstrings.
• Bring your hips forward to return to standing.
• Finish tall without leaning backwards.

Your back muscles still work to stabilise your spine. The aim is to maintain that position while your hamstrings and glutes produce hip extension.

Don’t chase the floor. Your depth should come from the range you can control at your hips.

Choose a load that lets you repeat that ex*****on throughout the set.

Save this for your next Romanian deadlift session.

STEPHEN’S RESULTS IN HIS OWN WORDS 💪🏻

Got to give a massive shoutout to my coach Gary McSeveney @ GM Physique 💪🏻

When I started working with him, the goal wasn’t simply to lose weight. I wanted to spend some proper time building muscle, get stronger and then diet back down to see what we’d actually managed to add.

The photos tell the story better than I can — start of the bulk ➡️ end of the bulk ➡️ end of the cut.

I started the gaining phase around 11st 10lb at 9.3% body fat. Over the bulk we gradually pushed my weight up to around 13st 10lb, focusing on building muscle and getting stronger while keeping everything controlled.

We then moved into the cutting phase and today I finished at 12st 5lb and 10% body fat, with the caliper measurements putting my lean mass roughly 7lb higher than at the end of my previous cut. 💪🏻

What I’ve appreciated most is that there have been no ridiculous diets or shortcuts. Calories and training have been adjusted when needed based on my weekly averages, photos, performance and how I was actually responding.

Even through the final weeks of the cut I’ve still been eating 2300+ calories, training hard and holding onto the muscle we’d worked to build.

You still have to put the work in yourself, but having someone who knows when to push, when to hold things steady and takes the guesswork out of the process makes a massive difference.

Couldn’t be happier with what we’ve achieved. 👌🏻💪🏻

Now I’m off to Turkey to test his coaching against an all-inclusive buffet. 😂🇹🇷

Then we go again. Bigger and better next time. 💪🏻

Brilliant result from Stephen , just trust the process 💪

Writing off October costs you February.

The thinking usually goes like this. Too late to bother now, I will sort it properly in January.

Then December arrives, you feel worse than you wanted to, and January starts from further back than it needed to.

You do not need a transformation before Christmas. You need to not go backwards. Those are completely different targets, and one of them is genuinely achievable from here.

Home late and starving. This is my default meal Cajun beef pasta. Takes 15-20 mins

Have one meal you can make without thinking. Not a recipe. Something you could make half asleep.

Protein first, then whatever is quickest. That is the part that stops you raiding the cupboard at ten.

Keep the ingredients in the house all the time. The default only works if it is there on the night you need it.

A boring meal at eight beats a takeaway at nine. You did not actually want a takeaway. You wanted food, fast, with no decisions.

What is yours?

Try adding a one second pause to your hack squat.

Here I’m lowering for 2 3 seconds, holding at the bottom for one second, then driving back up.

The important part , stay braced during the pause. Don’t relax into the bottom or bounce out of it.

I’m using this to focus on controlling the movement and keeping each rep consistent.

You may need to reduce the weight. Choose a load that lets you maintain the same depth, tempo and position throughout the set.

Then build your reps or weight while keeping that ex*****on.

The pause is a tool, not a requirement for every exercise or every set.

Save this for your next leg session.

If you have tried before and it stopped, it was not because you are lazy.

In my experience it usually stops for one of three reasons.

It was too much too soon, so it could not survive the first busy week. The fix is starting smaller than feels impressive.

Your week changed and the plan did not. New shifts, a holiday, somebody ill. The fix is a plan that gets adjusted rather than abandoned.

Nobody noticed when it started slipping. The fix is somebody actually looking every week.

Three different problems with three different fixes. A stricter plan fixes none of them.

Which one was it for you?
