PCOS has officially been renamed… and the new name changes everything.

For years, women were told this condition was mainly about “ovarian cysts” - when actually it may involve blood sugar, hormones, inflammation, skin, mood, energy and much more.

Sometimes the body whispers long before it shouts.

Let’s talk about why PCOS is now being called PMOS.

We’ve all done it…
Grabbed something quickly, eaten on the go, scrolled our phones through lunch, barely noticing what we’re eating.

But behind the scenes?
Your body is doing something incredibly detailed, coordinated and, actually, quite remarkable.

From the very first bite of that apple, digestion has already started.
Not in the stomach… in the mouth.

Saliva begins to break food down.
Your nervous system switches on digestive pathways.
Your body prepares everything that follows.

If you’re experiencing bloating, heaviness, or that dip in energy after eating…

Start at the top.

Slow down.
Chew your food properly.
Let your body recognise that food is coming.

Even before you eat, take a moment to anticipate your meal.
That simple pause helps stimulate saliva, enzymes and the whole digestive cascade.

It’s one of the most overlooked, yet most powerful shifts you can make.

Because often, the body w.h.i.s.p.e.r.s before it SHOUTS.

If you’re noticing those whispers after food and you’re not quite sure what your body is trying to tell you, this is exactly what we explore in clinic.

My Personalised Screening looks at how your body is communicating across digestion, nutrients, hormones and more, so we can understand what’s in balance and where things may need a little support.

If you’d like to explore that further, feel free to get in touch.

When we call adaptogens “stress herbs”, we unconsciously frame them as something that suppresses stress or boosts energy. But physiologically, that isn’t what they do.

Adaptogens work primarily through regulation of the HPA axis - the communication loop between the brain and adrenal glands - and they influence immune signalling and inflammatory pathways at the same time.

The hypothalamus signals the pituitary.
The pituitary signals the adrenals.
The adrenals release cortisol and other stress mediators.
Cortisol feeds back to the brain to regulate the loop.

In chronic stress, this communication becomes distorted.
You might see:
Over-signalling - wired, anxious, inflammatory
Under-signalling - flat, exhausted, foggy
Chaotic signalling - tired but wired, reactive, poor recovery

Adaptogens don’t simply “increase” or “decrease” cortisol.

They appear to enhance the body’s ability to modulate this loop.

This is why the same herb can feel calming in someone overdriven or strengthening in someone depleted

It isn’t pushing in one direction- it help the body to respond.

Many adaptogens also influence:
Immune cytokine signalling
Oxidative stress pathways
Mitochondrial function
Neurotransmitter balance

They are truly “communication herbs”!

Not every herb works by “boosting” or “calming”.
Some herbs rebalance.

If the body is stuck - we use alteratives.
If it’s sluggish - we use cholagogues or circulatory stimulants.
If it’s leaking - we use astringents.
If it’s tense - we use antispasmodics.
If it’s depleted - we use trophorestoratives.

The whisper tells you the type of imbalance.
The action tells you how to respond.
