Another week, another Archer Stairlifts Safety Advisory Bulletin!

This time about Battery Care... 🔋🔋

Modern day stairlifts are powered by rechargeable batteries, which are housed within the workings of your appliance.

As with any power source, over time the quality & integrity of a battery cell can degrade.

This is the reason stairlift manufacturers and retailers alike recommend your appliance be serviced annually, that way battery levels can be tested, and if necessary, cells can be replaced.

We understand that for as long as your Stairlift is operating normally, you may feel this is an unnecessary financial outlay - especially in the current climate. Our Engineers, however, cannot stress enough how important a yearly check can be!

‼️ Battery Bulging is a major safety concern ‼️
Not only can leaking acid cause irreparable damage to fundamental parts of your appliance..... expansion of the battery's outer casing can leave them at risk of explosion.

Don't leave your stairlift safety to chance.
If you're in doubt when your batteries were last changed, call us now - we'll test them and if necessary, swap them out!

At Archer Stairlifts we understand the important part a mobility product plays in maintaining your independence and continuing to enjoy the comforts of your own home.

But credit must also be given to our clients of advanced age, for their resilience in adapting to changing technological advancements in the industry.

Gone are the days of calling a Retailer you found listed in the Telephone Directory, to book an in-home Appointment with a stranger, who would talk to you about a product you knew very little about.

Nowadays, the process is very different.

Most searches begin online, seeking a suitable company to approach, reading Reviews by other customers and "meeting" principal members of the team via images & bios. Then follows research into available makes & models, possibly viewing a video tutorial or presentation to be sure the appliance is the right one for you. Finally, an Engineer conducts a technical site survey using state-of-the-art photo-measuring systems.

It's all a million miles from where the team at Archer started over two decades ago. We have adapted, but then again, so have you!

That's why we take this opportunity to celebrate this year's International Day of Older Persons 2022 for our client's ongoing "Resilience in a Changing World".

❗️IMPORTANT MESSAGE - DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR STAIRLIFT❗️

In this current climate, it's understandable you may consider following Energy Saving advice to switch off or unplug appliances you normally leave in Standby Mode.

It can be a common misconception that your stairlift is just sat idling when not in use, and simply draining electricity unnecessarily. This is not the case!

By disconnecting power to the battery charger on your lift, you are running the risk batteries will reach unacceptable levels, and the appliance will shut down to safeguard itself against a mid-journey breakdown.

At Archer Stairlifts we are receiving ever-more Call Outs to lifts requiring new batteries, because the ones within the appliance have completely drained due to household economising.

Under these circumstances an engineer visit + set of replacement batteries would not be covered under Warranty. That's a costly alternative to the minimal saving you could make on your Utility Bill by unplugging your lift!

So....please ensure you leave your Stairlift plugged in and switched on at all times 🙏.... It's more economical in the long run! 👍

Archer Stairlifts offices will remain closed for the National Day of Mourning on Monday 19th September, allowing our Staff time to pay their last respects to our beloved Queen Elizabeth II.

Our Emergency Breakdown Service only will be in operation from 5pm Friday 16th until normal business operations resume 9am on Tuesday 20th.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but trust you understand our decision to observe the Bank Holiday granted by King Charles III in tribute to the sad passing of his late Mother.

Out with the old and in with the new this week for Mrs B of Great Barr.

When the stairlift installed at her home began to fail regularly, the financial outlay for constant Breakdown Call Outs was not the only "cost" involved. Mrs B reached a point where travelling downstairs each morning left her fearful she would be unable to get back upstairs to bed later in the day.

With this in mind, our team advised the best course of action was to remove the existing appliance and replace it with a brand new stairlift. All within the same day, so the client would not be left without the use of a stairlift, even for one night!

Now Mrs B has a new-found confidence to continue accessing all areas of her home, instead of taking the difficult decision to occupy just her downstairs accommodation.
