A Blast from the Past!
Whilst having a clear out in the loft at Merton Lodge Surgery today, Wednesday 10th June 2026, we discovered a newspaper dated **Wednesday 10th June 1987** - exactly 39 years ago today!
It got us thinking about just how much the NHS and General Practice have changed over the years.
Thirty-nine years is a long time in healthcare, and we are fortunate to care for many patients who will remember visiting Merton Lodge Surgery back in 1987.
Perhaps most remarkably, whilst much has changed over the last 39 years, some things have not. We are fortunate to have members of staff who were working at Merton Lodge Surgery back in 1987 and who remain valued members of our team today. Their dedication, experience and commitment to our patients have supported the practice through change and advancing technology over many decades.
For those who enjoy a bit of nostalgia: the day after this newspaper was published, Margaret Thatcher won her third consecutive General Election, and the UK Number One single was Whitney Houston's *I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)*.
Whilst healthcare has evolved enormously, one thing remains unchanged: our commitment to providing safe, compassionate care for our patients and community.
