How many sessions will my animal need?
This is a question I’m asked quite often, and the simple answer is: it depends on your individual animal.
There’s no set rule that says an animal needs to see me weekly, monthly or every couple of months. In fact, we can often cover a huge amount within just one session , whether that’s understanding the reasons behind a behaviour, exploring how they’re feeling physically or emotionally, or supporting them through changes, illness or end-of-life.
Sometimes, though, things change and new questions naturally come up.
That’s actually one of the reasons I offer my Quick Question sessions. If your animal has already had a full in-person, video or photograph session with me, you may simply want to check in further down the line and ask something specific, rather than booking another full session.
For some animals, more regular support can be really beneficial. This might be an older animal, an animal living with a long-term health condition, or perhaps a competition horse where we might check in before, during and after the season to see how they’re feeling physically and emotionally and what support they may need.
Ultimately, there really is no one-size-fits-all approach.
After a session, I’ll always guide you if I feel further support may be helpful, but in many cases I leave that decision with you. You know your animal, and you’ll usually get a sense of when the time feels right to check in again.
