I coach people through hard moments. This was one of mine.
Being the coach doesn't make the hard parts feel any easier.
This was one of those moments.
With the sandbag across my shoulders at HYBRID NW, my body was telling me to ease off. I felt exactly what everyone feels when training starts getting uncomfortable.
There's something different about doing the training rather than coaching it.
You understand the temptation to back off. You also remember that the right encouragement can help when your confidence or energy begins to drop.
At 58, I still train and compete because I enjoy challenging myself. But it also keeps me connected to what the people I coach experience.
Most of the people I work with are balancing training with demanding jobs, family commitments, busy lives, aches and occasional setbacks.
Sometimes they need an extra push to keep going.
Other times, the right decision is to adapt the exercise or ease things back.
Knowing the difference is an important part of coaching.
Training should challenge you, but it should also meet you where you are. With the right structure, support and encouragement, it becomes much easier to stay consistent and keep progression.
That's what we aim to provide for every member who walks through our doors in Timperley.
If you've been struggling to get back into training and feel you'd benefit from some real support, send me a message.
