A week on and I’m still absolutely full of pride thinking about Maddy running the Hackney Half.
She’s had ME and there have been some really tough chapters in the last few years where even everyday life (& walking) has felt like a massive struggle. One of the ways she’s slowly rebuilt herself has been through movement — starting really gently and gradually building her stamina, strength and confidence again. Seeing her use that as part of her recovery has been incredible.
This wasn’t “just” a half marathon. It was her proving to herself how far she’s come, and doing it in her own way, at her own pace, without giving up.
And the most special part… she ran it with Charlotte and crossed the finish line together. For Maddy, Charlotte was a huge part of getting her through the toughest bits, and that support and bond really says it all.
She’s fundraising for the ME Association because of her own experience with ME and how much more awareness, research and support is still needed.
Still feeling so proud of her!
If anyone would like to support her fundraising, here’s her page:
