When I feed my children, my goal is diversity… lots and lots of different varieties of foods.
Our guts have a microbiome and it wants feeding. A little bit like a garden - if you look after it and give it the nutrients and care it needs then it will thrive. Different plant fibres in fruit, vegetables, legumes and food act as specific fuel sources for different types of bacteria in the gut. By giving your child a wide array of foods will ensure no single bacterial species dominates, creating a balanced and robust microbiome.
Establishing variety in a child’s diet early in life supports how their microbiome develops. This lays the groundwork to help prevent obesity, allergies, and autoimmune disorders later in life.
Why not try and introduce new foods to your child tomorrow? Start slow, keep it simple, you may be surprised what they will enjoy 🤍
