I owe you all an apology... 😅
I'm now 48 hours into my watermelon fast and honestly... I was starving.
So I sat down at the dinner table with my family, armed with nothing but a bowl of watermelon and a spoon. 🍉😂 For a moment, it actually felt like I was eating a proper meal with everyone else.
But in reality, I'm still on the fast.
The first couple of days can be the hardest. As the body adapts, cravings can become intense, energy can fluctuate, and your mind will try to convince you that eating absolutely everything in sight is a fantastic idea.
By the 48-hour mark, some interesting things are happening behind the scenes. Insulin levels have dropped, the body is becoming more efficient at using stored energy, digestion is getting a much-needed rest, inflammation may begin to reduce, and autophagy—the body's cellular housekeeping process—continues to increase.
Watermelon makes a fantastic fasting food because it's over 90% water, naturally hydrating, easy to digest, and rich in compounds such as lycopene and citrulline that support overall health and circulation.
So no, I haven't quit... although I'd be lying if I said I hadn't spent a few moments daydreaming about a plate of crispy oyster mushrooms, quinoa, and roasted veg. 😂

I want to quit already... but I know it's the parasites talking. 😂

Did you know some parasites and gut microbes can influence cravings? They thrive on sugar and processed foods, so when you stop feeding them during a fast, they can throw a full-blown tantrum.

Suddenly you're craving everything in the kitchen, including things you don't even normally eat!

The first few days are always the hardest, but that's often when the magic starts happening.

Stay strong. The parasites are losing the argument. 🍉💪

🍉 Day 1 of my watermelon juice fast.

Using the whole watermelon, including the rind, because nature doesn't waste nutrients. Hydration, antioxidants, digestive support, and a gentle way to give the body a break while still nourishing it.

I'll be drinking around 2 litres throughout the day alongside herbal teas and herbs to support my detox pathways.

I spotted this beauty in the woods.
It's called Amanita muscaria, and it's probably the most recognisable mushroom in the world.🍄
For thousands of years, shamans used it during spiritual ceremonies because of its psychoactive properties.
Some researchers believe it may have even influenced parts of the Santa Claus legend, from its red and white colours to its connection with reindeer and evergreen trees.
Its active compounds, muscimol and ibotenic acid, interact with the nervous system in fascinating ways, and scientists are now exploring how compounds found in mushrooms may support brain and neurological health.
The more I learn about nature, the more I'm convinced we've only scratched the surface.

46 hours into my water fast and feeling great. Tomorrow I'll be breaking it with fresh watermelon juice as I begin my Juicy July journey a little early. 🍉
Fasting has been studied for its potential to support the body's natural detoxification processes, reduce inflammation, promote cellular clean-up, support hormone regulation, and give the immune system an opportunity to reset and repair.
Watermelon is one of my favourite fruits for transitioning out of a fast. It's hydrating, refreshing, easy on digestion, and packed with nutrients.

Have you ever tried okra (ladyfingers)? 🌱

One of the things I love most about okra is how supportive it can be for digestion. That natural gel-like texture, known as mucilage, helps soothe and coat the digestive tract while also feeding beneficial gut bacteria.

During my son's cancer journey, okra was one of the foods I regularly included in his diet. I would either add it straight into smoothies or make it into soups. When the body is healing from disease, supporting the gut is essential. Your digestive system is responsible for absorbing the nutrients needed for repair, recovery, immune function, and overall health.

Food isn't just calories. It's information for the body, and sometimes the simplest foods can be the most powerful.

🍉 JUICY JULY starts early over here...

I've just picked up my watermelon and I'm ready.
I'm currently 18 hours into a water fast and on Monday we'll be breaking that with fresh juice before moving into the Juicy July protocol.
For me, summer is the perfect time to give the body a break from constant digestion and flood it with hydration, minerals, enzymes and living foods. It's also a time to reconnect with discipline, intention and listening to what the body actually needs.
I'll be fasting on and off throughout the summer and sharing the journey as I go.
