Of course we all experience stress sometimes, but when it becomes overwhelming or unmanageable it can really affect your mental health. π
Mental Health Awareness Week reminds us that we all need to take the steps to look after our mental health in the same way that we look after our bodies. π§
π Small steps can be taken every day to help keep your mental health in check and improve your wellbeing. Try these suggestions and it could make a big impact:
π€ Get more sleep: Ensuring that you get enough sleep is so vital for your mental wellbeing as it is the time when your body repairs, regulates emotions and calms cortisol levels so you wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.
π‘ Learn something new: When stress becomes overwhelming, shifting your focus towards learning a skill gives you a rewarding outlet and can be a great opportunity to expand your social circle.
πͺ Connect with others: When you feel isolated, it can be hard to break out of a low mood, but it's important to connect with others. Even a quick catch-up can remind you that people care about you and make your problems feel more manageable.
β½ Move your body: Exercise is a great way to benefit your mental wellbeing as it triggers biological and psychological changes, including the release of endorphins, serotonin, and endocannabinoids that boost mood and reduce stress hormones like cortisol.
π§ββοΈ Practise mindfulness: Studies show that practising mindfulness can help you deal better with stress, anxiety and depression as it can break the cycle of negative thoughts by reconnecting you with the present moment.
