Wanted to document possibly one of the best birthdays to date. 43. Not a special number. And the first one without mum.
Highlights include getting some roller skates from Sam Stewart, I've not been since I was 7. Thanks for the lesson, Jodie!
Brilliant lunch with Steve Coles, best day out saunaing and cake by zoe. The birthday hamper of dreams (can't tag you all with your private accounts!) Brilliant class with the Wednesday crew, fresh home-made tea by Elise Everest.
Staying in a the most adorable cabin and having 16 hours off.
Having my brilliant babies make it super awesome, and the absolute best bit of all, finding out got a 1st for her degree.
I really think you should make a total utter outrageous fuss for all birthdays going forward because, what a privilege it is and what a joy to be alive.

A visual representation of how I feel after today's training.🤣
15 years teaching and realising the magnitude of what I don't know. How excitingly humbling. There is much to explore, much to share, and more to ponder and let marinade.

Sandbags for not restorative use this week. Using the hot weather ad an excuse for some slow deep "mobility" work.

Deeper questions. Deeper learning. Evolution. Unpacking. Probably with a bit of anger as I face my extreme stubbornness around things I don't like.
Yoga therapy training. What a ride so far.

The greatest thing about teaching yoga is the extraordinary humans I get to teach. These amazing people make the classes so joyful and become lifelong friends. Steph was the most genuine, hilarious, naughty, outrageous, and pure hearted human. She's the first person to ever own up to and laugh at her own farts in a class. She always demanded core, even though she hated it. She had the dirtiest laugh and absolutely no filter. She cared so deeply for everyone around her, filled the class with her singing and stories. She made amazing jewellery and was especially proud of her melons...that she grew. She helped me when my mum was poorly and gave her so much time and support. Her beautiful dried flowers still hang in the yoga dungeon. Outside of this, I know how brilliant a mum she was and how much Hew, Kitty and Penny will miss her.
Sunday's will never be the same without you, Steph. We love and miss you.
Yogis, please message me if you would like her funeral details.

This week has been about a quieter, more inward approach. Listening to what the breath can tell us. And exploring the impact of lengthening the inhalation vs the exhalation, exploring gentle breath retentions, and connecting to the subtle, in movement and in stillness.
As I explore a new avenue in my yoga learning journey, having been driven away from the more dogmatic approaches of 20 years ago. To slowly open my mind and practice to other levels, I realise that the biomechanical, resilient strength building model can beautifully complement the subtle and energetic. That the journey in both sides leads towards the same goal.
Today's small workshop crew earned their cookies.

This seemingly minimal micro dose movement class this week has generated many complaints.
We know it's a good un if you can feel it deeply without seemingly doing much!

Last weeks lateral/cross legged/twist play. With an exploration of circulation and vyana vayu.
Notice how I had my blocks but failed to use them.
I couldn't be bothered to do a second take!

Full class on the group in Facebook.

A little ramble!
How's your yoga practice? How has it changed?
What's your why?
And yes. It's just a fu***ng handstand.

Bit of headstand play this week. Here's what we did.
