After the previous success of our Upper GI EmPATH courses, focused on pathology recognition, yesterday was our first ever Inflammatory Bowel Disease themed day.
The day focussed on getting IBD endoscopy basics right, recognising active inflammation, applying standardised scoring systems and recognising complications. We had some hands on simulation, some small group sessions led by our registrar faculty, as well as expert talks on topics such as surveillance, scoping in special circumstances, and surgical talks on pouches and peri-anal pathology, from a range of consultants.
It was a really enjoyable day by all, with a good mix of surgical trainees, gastroenterology trainees, and clinical endoscopists who all got to learn from each otherโs experiences.
Thanks to every body who attended, and our faculty for helping support such a great pilot! We look forward to this becoming a regular training opportunity!
