This morning I've had a gentle and slow session preparing for this weeks Northumberland Recovery College's Crafty Craic session.

Ashington's Hirst Welfare Centre are revamping their outside entrance area and making a little garden sanctuary. (If you have any plants/pots etc you'd like to do are they'd be very gratefully received - just drop off there.)

Our Crafty Craic students are at their best when they have a community assignment - Halloween ghosts, Trees of Hope, poppies...you name it, they've done it!
So this morning I've been transforming some scruffy, old, boring grey painted boards, with a little sand and a coat of fresh green paint, all ready for students to create some quirky, welcoming and whimsical entrance garden signs!

Stay tuned, I can't wait to see what they produce! We may of course, also enlist the wonderful artist that is Sarah Bredin-Kemp, to help outline some lettering! 😉🙏🏻

I also get max Brownie points for moving the boards on, from Mr Creative Remakery (aka my husband) who has been trying to throw said crate of boards out for the last two years! 🥴😆

It's been a while since I did a write up of our Northumberland Recovery College's weekly Crafty Craic session. Promise I'm back on it! 🥴🙏🏻

For the last few weeks students have been making some wishing wreaths and wonderful floral themed contributions for Mortal Fools fabulous upcoming Roots community event. (See flyers below for details - free, all welcome!)

Huge thanks to Naomi for facilitating the session face to face and delivering the weekly activities I plan! Huge thanks also to the students for being wonderful and embracing the community collaborations! They always come up trumps!

If you'd like to join our Crafty Craic sessions in Ashington, please see poster below - anyone over 18 who lives/studies/works in Northumberland, is welcome to attend. It's free and you don't need any craft experience or expertise. It's a really friendly, informal and welcoming group, meeting every Thursday 11-1 at the Hirst Park Pavilion. (**Poster I'd out of date - we meet here every week now.)

We've been a little quiet but all still alive! Health continues to be a work in progress for me but we're still managing to deliver some wonderful projects with the help of Sarah, Melanie and our new Creative Remakery facilitator, Megan!

I've had a lovely time behind the scenes completing arrangements and preparing for our Miners' Picnic peg doll crafts in a couple of weeks time for Academy.

It's a yearly event that we really look forward to, where hundreds of local children get to go back in time for a day and experience activities that children would have done in the earlier part of the 1900's - brass bands, mining era songs, parading with their school's proggy banner - and some 'make do and mend' style crafts where the kids make peg doll characters - just as their early mining community counter parts would've done. The kids love the 'embelishment buffet' on offer to make their characters and the choice to make whatever they desire! In the past we've had brides, superhero's, animals, mini beasts, trees, mermaids, pirates - and everything in between!

We're also preparing for a whole school 'wet felting project' - but that's going towards making special surprise gift, so I can't say anything more about that just now!

I love wet felting and it's a lovely activity to do with children. There's lots of sensory experience and I find the colours of the fleece so balancing to our bodies.

Did you know you can balance your chakras just by looking at colours you're drawn to?
Many moons ago I did a crystal therapy diploma. Without even placing any crystals, I'd present a box of coloured fabrics and ask a client to choose a colour they were drawn to - in every case, they intuitively chose the colours they needed. A little while of looking at the colours (or better still, drawing with the coloured crayons) and their previously unbalanced chakras, would be balanced!
We intuitively know what we need - when we get out of our heads!

So when we facilitate creative sessions, there's a WHOLE lot of learning, balancing a regulation going on! The colours, textures, movement etc have a huge influence on our wellbeing.

I'm an ex primary school teacher based in Ashington with a passion for sustainability, creativity and wellbeing. As well as delivering a multitude of creative, eco and wellbeing sessions in schools, across the community and in corporate settings, we offer a range craft kits that don't cost the Earth. One of our most popular is our rag wreath kit...

We have a wide selection of ready made wreaths or DIY rag wreath kits on offer - commissions are also taken.

The wreaths and kits are popular gifts, great activities for 'Girls Nights In' if you're getting together with friends, hen parties, wedding/christening gifts and, we have also done a few for memorial and funeral tributes in place of flowers.

The DIY kits come with full instructions and everything you need to get creative and make a beautiful rag wreath of your own. We had the best time with Mortal Fools last week doing what we do best...upcycling creative fun with our wonderful local community!
