Summer is here, so we can take the opportunity to be outside more!
Being outside doing activities has shown to be beneficial to our mental health.
Being mindful while outside and focusing on what is around us by using all our senses.
We can notice colours, sounds, and what we feel!
For example a walk along the beach, notice the colours the blue sky, the sea, what can you feel?
It could be the warm sunshine or the wind gently blowing a warm or cool breeze on our skin.
If you take a walk in the countryside what would you notice, the birds singing, there might be wildlife around, would you feel peaceful being immersed in nature.
By setting aside a few minutes a day to ground ourselves in the present we can appreciate the simple things around us.
Mindfulness can also be helpful when our minds are very busy and we have unhelpful thoughts or feel anxious, by focusing on our breathing and staying in the present we can be more accepting of how we feel and let unwanted thoughts go!
We don't have to control our minds not worry about the past or the future, we can feel calmer.
