Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an awareness day focusing on digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people alive today who live with disabilities or impairments. It is marked annually on the third Thursday of May.

We are taking this opportunity today to highlight some of the things we consider when posting content online.

Use descriptive text to make images accessible for visually impaired users
Improve readability by using appropriate text sizing, colouring and style
Add transcripts for videos to make them accessible for users with hearing loss

Please let us know in the comments below if you have any tips for making content accessible.

What a night for BucksVision Milton Keynes!
A huge thank you to everyone who made our recent Quiz Night at Simpson Village Hall such a fantastic success!
Organised brilliantly by Pat & Neil Hodges, the hall may have been small — but that didn’t stop us squeezing in 9 lively teams, enjoying delicious ploughman’s platters prepared by our amazing volunteers.
The evening was full of laughter, friendly competition and community spirit — and thanks to your generosity (and some fantastic raffle prizes!), we raised just over £1,000 to support blind and partially sighted people.
A special shoutout to Ian, who gave a brilliant talk about our work and the need for more volunteers… and then rolled up his sleeves to help with the washing up alongside his wife

Save the date!
We’re doing it all again — even bigger — on 13th November in Bradville. You won’t want to miss it!

This will take place on Wednesday 3rd June 2026 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at BucksVision.

With expert guidance from OMM’s Private Client specialists, Gurpreet Jani and Aleisha Lee, the session offers a valuable opportunity to learn, ask questions, and gain confidence in planning for the future. Osborne Morris & Morgan are delighted to offer an exclusive discount for BucksVision members who sign up to the event. Members can receive a 10% discount on a Will or LPA or 15% when arranging both a Will & LPA.

Huge congratulations to Sarah Fortescue!

We’re delighted to celebrate Sarah Fortescue, a valued member of our Milton Keynes Division, on winning her category at the Irish National Blind/VI Tennis Championship.

An incredible achievement and a testament to Sarah’s dedication, skill and passion for the sport.

Sarah said: “It was such a warm, friendly and well run tournament, I had a great time!” — which makes the win even more special!

Everyone at BucksVision is very proud of you, Sarah.

The BISS team are very pleased to announce a new collaboration with Bucks Fire & Rescue Service.
Our two teams will now work closely together to provide fire safety services to individuals with hearing loss.
With BISS providing the assessment and equipment, local fire crews will now be able to install sensory smoke alarm equipment in your home.
For an assessment, please self-refer here: https://adultsportal.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/web/portal/pages/home

Make a difference with BucksVision

There are so many ways you can support blind and partially sighted people in your community — and every single one matters.

Donate – Big or small, your support helps us empower people to live independent, fulfilling lives.
Volunteer – Join a friendly, supportive team (91% of our volunteers love what they do!)
Fundraise – Take on a challenge or host an event and make a real impact
Spread the word – A simple like or share helps us reach those who need us most
Leave a legacy – Including BucksVision in your Will helps secure our future

Together, we can continue to provide life-changing support.

However you choose to help, you’re making a difference.

Here are some of the photos from our experience day at the Amersham Fair Organ Museum! Many thanks to the museum for accommodating us on a lovely day out with friends.

We offer many more experience days for those with sensory loss as part of our service. If you would like to get involved, please contact us: https://www.bucksvision.co.uk/contact

Most people have their backs to the camera, looking toward a man at the front giving a talk. The walls are decorated with large, ornate mechanical organ facades featuring colourful carvings of figures and elaborate gold scrollwork. The third picture features women sitting at a table, one of whom is feeling a perforated music book used in fair organs, labelled "COLONEL BOGEY". The fourth picture features a woman with a cane standing next to a dark brown mechanical organ with over a dozen trumpet horns.]

In partnership with Guide Dogs UK, we have delivered three sighted guiding refresher training sessions over the past month.

By putting themselves in the shoes of someone with sight loss, our volunteers have developed their skills and techniques, enabling them to confidently make a difference to the lives of so many in our community.

If you would like to volunteer for us, please visit this page to find which role is best for you: https://www.bucksvision.co.uk/support/volunteer
