The HPV vaccine is saving lives.

New research by Queen Mary University of London and Cancer Research UK shows deaths have fallen sharply since school-age girls began being offered it in 2008, and around 200 lives have been saved in England so far thanks to the vaccine.

The vaccine protects against high-risk HPV, a virus that can lead to cervical cancer and some other cancers.

Both girls and boys can get protection from high-risk HPV by having the HPV vaccination in their teenage years. It not only protects against cervical cancer, but other types of cancer too.

You can help protect your child by giving consent for them to have their vaccination when invited.

And remember: cervical screening is still important, even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine.

What Are Corns – And Why Do People Get Them? 👣

Have you ever had a small, hard, painful area of skin on your foot that feels like you’re walking on a pebble? It could be a corn.

A corn is a build-up of hard skin that develops when the skin tries to protect itself from repeated pressure or friction. Unlike general hard skin (callus), corns are usually smaller and have a dense central core that can press into deeper tissues, causing pain.

Common causes of corns include:
👟 Shoes that are too tight, too loose, or rub against the skin
🦶 Foot deformities such as bunions, hammer toes, or prominent joints
🚶 Changes in the way you walk or stand
🧦 Socks that bunch up or create friction
👣 Excess pressure on certain areas of the feet

Types of corns:
• Hard corns – usually found on the tops or sides of toes
• Soft corns – often develop between the toes where moisture is present
• Seed corns – small corns that can appear on the sole of the foot

Don’t ignore painful corns. While corn plasters and DIY treatments may seem tempting, they don’t address the underlying cause and may not be suitable for everyone, especially people with diabetes or poor circulation.

Professional foot care can safely reduce corns, identify the cause, and offer advice to help prevent them from returning.

✨ Healthy feet help keep you active, comfortable, and pain-free.
