🖤💚 WHY NEST MEANS SO MUCH TO ME
The Obsidian Moon Piercing Wheel might be a bit of fun, but the reason behind it is something very personal to me.
As a neurodivergent adult, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to find accessible, understanding support. So many services focus on children and young people, while support for neurodivergent adults can be much harder to find.
NEST is one of the few local services I've personally been able to turn to, and that's something I really value.
But my connection with NEST actually goes back years.
As a mum, I've attended many of their educational seminars and workshops to better understand autism and other neurodevelopmental differences⁶, gaining invaluable knowledge and practical strategies to help support my son.
Those experiences have also helped me develop a greater understanding of my own neurodivergence.
I've recommended NEST to friends too, who've received friendly, positive and genuinely helpful advice themselves.
Knowing there's a local service I can confidently turn to and recommend to others means a great deal to me.
💚 SO, WHAT DO NEST ACTUALLY DO?
NEST (Neurodevelopmental Empowerment & Strategy Team) is a local NHS Ayrshire & Arran service offering information, education and guidance around neurodevelopmental differences.
Their work includes:
📚 Educational seminars and workshops throughout the year.
🧠 Advice, information and practical guidance to help people better understand neurodevelopmental differences.
💻 Online learning, including videos, educational resources and their Learn Zone.
🌿 Practical learning around sensory needs, sleep, coping with change and everyday challenges.
🤝 Signposting to local support and helping services and organisations become more understanding and inclusive.
And one of the most important things?
NEST welcomes people of all ages, and you don't need a formal diagnosis to contact them.
Whether you're looking for information for yourself, your child or someone you support, having somewhere to turn for guidance can make a world of difference.
💚 WHY I'VE CHOSEN TO GIVE BACK
I wanted to bring a little fun to Obsidian Moon while supporting a service that's genuinely made a difference to me, my family and people I care about.
And while we're launching our Piercing Wheel with a little Halloween fun, this isn't just a seasonal event.
The wheel will continue throughout the year, raising awareness and giving something back to a service that means so much to me.
