Now, I know, I am always banging on about how Mindfulness isn't a cure for anything. It is always and forever complimentary to tried and tested treatments like counseling, medication etc.
So why does it need to be trauma-informed?
The reality is that some people find mindfulness after experiencing difficulties in life. Therefore, it is incredibly important to have at least a degree of awareness of how trauma manifests.
In the context of mindfulness practice, being trauma-informed means that instructions are offered in such a way that it creates a sense of safety, choice and respect for personal autonomy at all time.
A few examples are:
-Practising with eyes open or closed
-Reminding participants that they don't need to do what is suggested if it's too uncomfortable
- Seating participants in a way that the path to the door is clear to them
You are ALWAYS in charge of your own practice and of your own body ❤️💜🧡
