The light, high-pitched noise you hear from an ultrasound machine is usually caused by the rapid vibrations of the machine’s internal components as they generate the ultrasound waves. These vibrations can sometimes produce a faint audible tone or whine, even though ultrasound frequency is above the range of human hearing.

“What even IS an Orthotist?”

You might have heard of a podiatrist, physiotherapist or chiropractor… but Orthotist?

So, what do we actually do and why might you need to see one?

An Orthotist is a healthcare professional who assesses how your body moves and uses orthoses (supports/braces) to help improve movement, function and comfort.

And no, we don’t just make insoles!

We can help with things such as:
🦶🏻 Foot & ankle pain
🦵🏻 Knee, hip & lower-limb problems
🏃‍♀️ Running & sporting injuries
🦶🏻 Flat feet & changes in foot posture
⚖️ Leg-length differences
🦴 Joint instability & alignment problems
🩼 Braces and supports for different parts of the body
👟 Custom orthoses designed specifically for YOU

But perhaps the most important thing we do is look at the bigger picture. Your foot doesn’t work in isolation. The way your foot moves can influence your ankle, knee, hip and even further up the body, which is why we assess how you move, not just where it hurts.

At Total Mobility Healthcare, we can assess your feet, lower limbs and movement patterns to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and whether an orthosis could help.

So if you’ve been told “there’s nothing wrong” but you’re still getting pain…Or you’ve tried exercises, changed your shoes and rested, but it keeps coming back…Maybe it’s time to look at how you move.

I get asked all the time which trainers I recommend for everyday wear, so here’s my current ranking! 👟

This is based on comfort, cushioning, support and all-day wear, not style or running performance.

Do you agree with my list? What would you move up or down?
