🌟 Volunteer Appreciation Week 2026 🌟
This Volunteer Appreciation Week, we want to take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible volunteers who make such a difference across our communities every single day.

From supporting our programmes and projects, helping at events, sharing skills and experience and giving their time to support others, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their dedication, compassion and commitment help strengthen communities and create opportunities.

We also want to acknowledge our voluntary Board Members, whose leadership, guidance and vision help steer our organisation and ensure we continue to deliver meaningful support where it is needed most. Their contribution often happens behind the scenes, but it is invaluable to the success of our work. Our Chairperson, Marbeth, had the opportunity at one of the events last night to speak about her experiences as a volunteer. Causeway Coast and Glens Community Development Volunteer Centre

"How grateful I am to have been given a long life to be of service to so many and given the joy to enjoy it all" (Pat Crossley)

This year we held Our Community Champion Awards, celebrating individuals who go above and beyond to make a positive difference in their communities. This highlighted the extraordinary efforts of volunteers whose kindness, commitment and community spirit inspire us all.

πŸ’™ This week, and every week, we celebrate the volunteers who make our communities better places to live, work, and belong.

What a truly inspiring afternoon we had celebrating together!

Through collaboration and initiative with Communities Causeway Waterstones Coleraine and local contributors, the event highlighted the richness and diversity of our community. Reflecting on this year's theme, "Home," participants shared voices, stories, and perspectives from around the world, reminding us of the many ways we find belonging and connection.

It was refreshing, uplifting, and inspiring to hear so many languages spoken in one space, showcasing the friendships and relationships that help strengthen our communities every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part, shared their poetry, and helped make this unique and unifying event such a success.

🌞A beautiful, warm sunny day to learn about the cold, harsh pain of migration.

BCRC organised an insightful and emotive event, The Emigrant's Walk where we walked in the footsteps of Irish migrants escaping the horrors of The Great Hunger attempting to make their way to North America.
This gentle hike up Carntogher Mountain, just outside Maghera took us through countryside almost unchanged since famine times where we were rewarded with stunning views of Lough Neagh, the Sperrins and the Mourne Mountains.

Local tour guide Cathy O’Neill told us of the stories of emigrant’s fleeing starvation, disease, rising rents and unemployment leaving behind friends and family.

β€œOne of the strongest messages people take from The Emigrant's Walk is that the story of migration hasn't changed over the course of history, it is only the direction of travel that has changed. In the 19th century, Irish families left these shores because of poverty, hunger, oppression and the hope of a better life for their children. Today, people arrive in Ireland and across Europe for many of the very same reasons. When you walk in the footsteps of those emigrants, it reminds us that behind every statistic is a human story of courage, loss, resilience and hope. History gives us a chance to look at modern immigration with greater empathy and understanding.”

Our sincere thanks to Cathy for leading us so expertly on this must-do walk.
