Cancer Research UK Ballymoney Committee Thanks

The members are pleased to report that the generosity of people from Ballymoney and surrounding areas has resulted in a significant sum being donated to the ongoing work of Cancer Research UK.

A total of £10448.93 was donated from the annual Street Collection and Parade of Bands on Saturday 1 August.

Now in its third year, Ballymoney Turns Pink week is proving to be an excellent event to complement the Parade of Bands with many businesses putting great effort into decorating their shop windows and finding creative ways to encourage donations including selling CRUK badges and prize draws. Shop owners also find that the event raises awareness of cancer and the importance of early diagnosis with many of their customers speaking about different experiences.

Commenting on the news, Committee Chairman Ian Kennedy wished to thank everyone who had made these events such a success: local businesses; volunteers who had assisted with collecting and counting the donations, managing the running of the parade and assisting with the tidy up afterwards; the members of the Ballymoney vintage and classic car clubs for arranging the cavalcade prior to the band parade; Bannside Fife and Lambeg Drum Club for providing pre-parade entertainment; North Antrim Agricultural Committee for making the Showgrounds available; St John Ambulance for medical cover; PSNI for traffic control.
