When “I got it wrong” turns into “I’m rubbish at this”, it can be hard to know what to say.

Start with their disappointment, give them a moment, then offer one small next step.

Save these four phrases to try. đŸ€

“They’re absolutely fine at school.”

Sometimes those words are reassuring.

And sometimes they leave a parent feeling even more confused.

Because the child school sees may not be the child who walks through your front door.

At school, they cope.
They follow instructions.
They hold it together.
They navigate friendships, noise, expectations, transitions and frustrations.

Then they come home
and unravel.

The smallest thing can trigger tears.
A simple request becomes too much.
Their emotions seem to go from 0–100.

It can be easy to look at that moment and think, “Why are they behaving like this?”

But there’s another question that can completely change how we see it:

“What has it taken for them to hold themselves together all day?”

Children don’t always show us how overwhelmed they are while the overwhelming thing is happening.

Sometimes we see it afterwards.

And sometimes the place where they fall apart is also the place where they feel safest to do so. đŸ€

If you know a parent who regularly hears “but they’re fine at school”
send this to them.

Getting support for your child doesn’t mean something is seriously wrong.

Early support can be gentle, reassuring, and confidence-building. It can help children understand their emotions, talk about worries, manage frustration, and feel less alone.

And for parents, it can offer reassurance too.

You don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to ask for support.

Follow for calm, nurturing support around children’s emotional wellbeing.

Children don’t always have the words to tell us what’s going on inside. And for some children, words may never be the easiest way to communicate how they’re feeling đŸ€

Sometimes we see it in their behaviour, their reactions, the things they avoid, or simply in the way they need us a little more.

Supporting a child’s emotional wellbeing isn’t about expecting them to be able to explain everything they feel. It’s about noticing, listening and getting to know the child in front of us, and helping them understand themselves in whatever way works best for them.

Because there are lots of ways for a child to show us what they need, even when they can’t tell us in words đŸ€

Sometimes it really does look like your child has gone from 0 to 100 over something tiny.

But the “tiny thing” may simply be the final drop.

Tiredness, hunger, school, noise, transitions, frustration and holding it together all day can all add up.

So when the big reaction comes, try asking:

“What might have been filling their emotional cup today?”

That shift can help us respond to the overwhelm, not just the behaviour.

Does your child ever seem to explode over the smallest thing?

Some children feel things more deeply than they know how to explain.

They may seem overwhelmed by small changes, become upset quickly, worry often, struggle with confidence, or find it hard to regulate big feelings.

1:1 sessions are designed to gently support children who may need a calm, safe space to understand what they are feeling and learn simple ways to manage those emotions.

The sessions are child-led, age-appropriate and tailored to your child’s individual needs. They take place in the child’s home environment, helping them feel more comfortable and at ease.

These sessions are not therapy or diagnostic support. They are designed to support emotional wellbeing in a gentle, practical and nurturing way.

If you’re wondering whether this would be right for your child, send me a message and we can talk it through.

Sometimes the smallest things can feel like the biggest things đŸ€

To us, it might be toast cut the wrong way, the wrong cup, or a sibling simply looking at them.

But for a child who is already tired, hungry, disappointed or overwhelmed, that one little thing can sometimes be the final straw.

It doesn’t mean we have to fix everything, change every boundary or always give them what they want.

Sometimes supporting a child simply means looking beyond the behaviour and wondering

“What might be going on underneath this?”

Because what feels small to us can feel very big to them đŸŒ±

And yes
sometimes it really is about the blue cup 💙

There is so much pressure to keep up with work, school, activities, exercise, home life and the pace of everyone around us.

But children can feel that pace too.

This isn’t about doing less or changing what works for your family. It’s simply about noticing when the pressure to keep up begins to affect how home feels.

A slower pace isn’t falling behind. Sometimes, it creates more peace, connection and space for everyone to breathe đŸ€

I think as parents we can put so much pressure on ourselves to get things right.

But there will be times when we lose our patience, raise our voice, or react in a way we wish we hadn’t.

And afterwards, it can be so easy to think, I should have handled that better.

But we’re human too. đŸ€

What matters is that we can come back to our children and say,

“I’m sorry. I didn’t handle that very well. Can we try again?”

Those little moments of repair really matter.

They show our children that we can get things wrong, talk about them, reconnect and try again.

Parenting isn’t about getting it right all of the time.

Sometimes, coming back and making things right is just as important.
