And that’s a wrap!

Yesterday we celebrated over 100 graduates who successfully completed their climate change training course. The course was co-created with Live Here Love Here and funded by Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs’s carrier bag levy. It was designed to make educating about the effects of climate change accessible, and offer people with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or autism the opportunity to do their bit for the environment ♻️🌱💚.

But it’s not over yet. We will continue to roll our co-created programme across our services as more and more people we support express an interest in wanting to learn about climate change and how they can do their bit for the environment.

Caleb delivered a very important message to Stormont today. We had 90 of our 5 point manifesto printed with a note from Caleb (attached to the front). These will be distributed to all MLAs in the assembly.

It’s important we bring personal and real thoughts to those in power. Below is Caleb’s message with a bit of help from me 😉🤣 ⬇️

Dear MLA,

I have 5 Wishes attached.

I along with many others need a future.

We need a plan.

Our lives are in your hands.

I won't be young forever and neither
will my mum and dad.

Give us choice, give us equity!

We matter, Will you help us?

Have you ever wondered why our staff don't wear uniforms?

At Positive Futures, we believe people should be recognised for who they are, not by the support they receive. That's why our staff don't wear uniforms or highly visible identifiers when supporting people in their communities✨.

For too long, disabled people were excluded from everyday community life. We're committed to doing things differently by supporting people to live ordinary lives, build relationships and enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else.

Over the past few weeks many of the people we support across our services have been out enjoying the last of the summer sun in places such as National Trust NI and Drunmanor Forest Park making memories and spending time in their local communities, just like you or I😊.

If you see us out and about, don't be afraid to say hello, offer a smile or give us a wave 👋

📢 Kevin Doherty appointed as the next CEO of Positive Futures

We are pleased to announce that Kevin Doherty MSc, MCIPD will join Positive Futures on 01 October 2026, working closely with Agnes Lunny (current Chief Executive) and our Directors to ensure a smooth transition.

After 30 years, Dr Agnes Lunny, OBE, will be stepping down as CEO of Positive Futures and retiring in mid-December.

With decades of experience across the voluntary and disability sectors, Kevin brings a wealth of leadership experience, insight and passion to the role. His career includes 16 years in senior leadership positions, including CEO of Disability Action NI and most recently a Commissioner with the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

A word from Kevin:
"Positive Futures' belief that where others see problems, they see possibilities, resonates deeply with me. Throughout my career I have worked alongside people with disabilities, their families and communities to create opportunities, champion inclusion and drive positive change. I am looking forward to getting started!"

At Positive Futures we do support people with PICA condition (eating non food items) and it really is not well understood. Kudos to the team behind this awareness campaign.

A meaningful life looks different for everyone. This is Colm's Story ✨

For families of the people we support, it's about knowing that the person you love is living a life filled with choice, opportunity and meaningful relationships. Nobody should feel isolated and stagnant; Positive Futures supports people with learning disabilities and autism to communicate what a good life looks like and support them to achieve it.

Colm, who is supported by our Lakeland Supported Living Service in Co. Fermanagh is a great example of what can happen when people are supported to live the life they want. Through person-centred support, Colm has continued to build his independence, connect with his community and enjoy the things that matter most to him.

Behind every success story like Colm's are dedicated Support Workers who bring patience, kindness and a genuine passion for helping people achieve their goals.

This is what choice and control looks like 🙌

We believe everyone should have real choice and control over how they live their life, whether that's pursuing creative passions, exploring new places, enjoying a favourite hobby or simply spending time doing what makes them happy😄.

Over the past week, people we support have been doing just that. From contributing to our inclusive art project at Cluain Farm in Co. Westmeath with artist Kate Whiteman Art to holidays in Derry and Portugal, a day trip to Kilkenny Castle, a visit to see the new Disney Moana movie, catching up over a Costa Coffee in Omagh, and taking part in a tabletop gaming event in Craigantlet.

These moments may look different for everyone, but they all reflect something important: people being supported to live lives that are meaningful to them, built around their own choices, interests and aspirations.

Thank you to everyone involved in making these opportunities possible ✨

Boring? Not here.

Some jobs look the same day after day. These roles don't.

As Stevie puts it, it's just a wonderful job that brings something different, every day. One day you could be supporting someone to fulfil their day to day, the next supporting them to get out and try something new or achieve a goal that's important to them✨.

The key isn't having all the answers. It's taking the time to get to know people, listening to what matters to them, and providing truly person-centred support that helps them live the life they choose.
