Medal Monday đ„ł
Every medal has a story behind it, and it's rarely just about race day. It's the hours of training fitted around everything else life asks of you. This week, three of our women have stories worth telling.
Kathryn is back racing, and what a return. She took on the Kielder Trail 10km and finished in a brand new PB, earning this gorgeous medal.
Kay has fallen for the Scottish autumn off-road triathlon scene, this time racing the Lochore Triathlon. A chilly swim (and still out quickly!), a "gravel" bike leg that turned out to be mostly mountain bike trail, rocky sections, wet roots, a drop-off and some mud for good measure. But she'd done her homework and practiced the tricky bits which meant that by lap three she was whizzing round the berms đ. She finished with a hilly run along the sheep paths in 2 hours 13 minutes. That's what preparation gives you: confidence when the course throws curveballs. Wining your age group is the icing on the cake.
Shaniah ran in the mountains for the first time at the Flagstaff Half Marathon, and it was no gentle introduction! Climb after climb, a near rolled ankle, and trail so soft it felt like running in sand. She finished in 3 hours 15 minutes. It wasn't the time she'd hoped for, but she pushed through, made new running friends along the way, and got to run near Dook'o'oosĆĂĂd, one of her sacred mountains.
Here's the thing: none of these women have only training to think about. Work, family and life are all in the mix. They're proof you don't need perfect circumstances. You need a plan, a bit of courage, and people in your corner.
