Today Harley was feeling sad.
He’s usually the happiest little boy, so seeing him low felt strange.
I tried talking.
Cuddles.
Trying to cheer him up.
But nothing really shifted it.
And if I’m honest… I felt frustrated because I couldn’t fix it.
Then I thought:
💭 What helps me when I feel this way?
So I said:
“Grab your bike. Me and you are going on an adventure.”
And off we went 😊
Into the sunshine.
Not really talking.
Just being together.
And slowly I watched him come back to life.
He started singing (Mama Mia) 🤣
Pointing out flowers, ponies and ducks 🦆
Smiling again 😃
And by the end of it, he’d ridden 8km, his longest ride ever 🥹
Watching his little face light up from the fresh air, movement, endorphins and sense of achievement honestly made me almost cry.
And it reminded me of something so important:
The biggest way you can love someone isn’t always by fixing their sadness.
Sometimes it’s just sitting beside them in it and saying:
“I’m here. You don’t have to pretend. And I still want to be with you exactly as you are.”
I think that’s what so many of us are really searching for… someone we trust to keep us safe while we process our sh*t.
I guess I just also described coaching ❤️
