🚑📚 Recently, some of our First Responders took part in a CPD training session covering a range of medical conditions, followed by a Basic Life Support BLS refresher.

Ongoing training is key to ensuring our teams maintain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to provide high-quality patient care. It was also great to have our colleagues from the Community Safety Team in Barnstaple in attendance. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the session a success.

Another busy weekend for the Gardant Medicare team!

With the sun shining across Devon, our teams are once again out supporting a range of fantastic events.

Today, we are providing medical cover at both the Streatham and St Luke's Open Days for the University of Exeter, welcoming prospective students and their families. Following a busy day supporting the University yesterday, it's great to be back on campus again helping to keep visitors safe.

Meanwhile, our Paramedic led team is covering the Burrator 10K for Sportiva Events, supporting runners as they take on one of Devon's most scenic races.

And the weekend isn't over yet! Tomorrow, another of our teams will be providing medical cover for a football tournament in Ottery St Mary.

A huge thank you to all of our dedicated clinicians, responders and support staff who continue to deliver professional medical cover across Devon and Cornwall.

Another fantastic weekend supporting our long standing partners at Sportiva Events at Roadford Lake.

Saturday morning saw competitors taking on challenging trail runs through the woods, before the action moved onto the lake in the afternoon for the swim events. Sunday then brought a full day of triathlons and aquathlons, with athletes pushing themselves across multiple disciplines in some brilliant conditions.

Our team were on hand throughout the weekend providing medical cover across the event site, supporting competitors, spectators and organisers to help ensure everything ran safely and smoothly.

A huge thank you to the team for all of their hard work over the weekend and to Sportiva Events for continuing to trust us with their events. We always enjoy working alongside such a professional and well organised crew.

🚑 Another fantastic weekend for the Gardant Medicare team supporting Exeter Tri Events at the Exe Valley Triathlon 🏊🚴🏃

We were proud to provide medical cover for this brilliant event for the second year running, supporting competitors, organisers, and spectators throughout a busy day of racing.

Last Friday marked a big milestone for Gardant Medicare 🚑🔥

For the first time, we were proud to provide medical cover for Padstow's Obby Oss May Day celebration in an iconic Cornish Tradition, and what an event it was.

With an estimated footfall of 10,000 people and beautiful weather throughout, our Paramedic-led, multidisciplinary team delivered a seamless operation in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Led by our MIMMS-qualified Operations Director , we worked closely alongside Devon & Cornwall Police and partner agencies to ensure the safety of everyone attending.

Delivered on every level. The team smashed it.

We couldn’t be prouder of how our staff performed, professional, proactive, and fully committed from start to finish.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. Here’s to many more. 👊

What a weekend… 🚑🔥

Why Medics Never Run

It sounds counterintuitive. There’s a medical emergency, every second counts, and you see the medics... walking? While it might look like they aren't in a hurry, this is a deliberate, life-saving technique taught in emergency medical training globally.

There are three vital reasons for this "slow is smooth" approach:

Situational Awareness: Running narrows your field of vision (tunnel vision). By walking, a medic can scan the scene for hazards—like downed power lines, aggressive pets, or spilled chemicals—ensuring they don't become a second patient.

Clinical Precision: Physical exertion causes a spike in heart rate and fine motor tremors. A medic who sprints to a patient will have shaky hands, making it harder to start an IV or intubate. Walking ensures they arrive with a steady hand and a clear mind.

Psychological Stability: In a crisis, the family and patient are often panicking. If the professionals arrive sprinting and shouting, it validates that panic. If they walk in calmly and purposefully, it signals that "the help has arrived and the situation is under control."

It’s a powerful reminder that in high-pressure situations, composure is more effective than speed.

Over the past few days, the Gardant Medicare team has been out supporting a great mix of events across Devon.

We provided medical cover at the Haldon Heroic sportive with Events , supporting riders tackling a challenging course.

We also worked alongside our colleagues at Gardant Support Services for Springfest at Barnstaple Pannier Market , and a fantastic night of live music with Frank Turner at The Lemon Grove at the University of Exeter , helping ensure both events ran safely and smoothly.

A varied few days, strong teamwork throughout, and as always, proud of our crews out on the ground.
