How peaceful does your inner self feel?

As you may know I’ve had a bit of a change again this year with moving back to Somerset.
Much as my soul is more comfortable being in my own surroundings it’s been a bit of a task to gather my belongings back around me.
It’s slowly making sense.
In my frenetic state ploughing through this process my inner self has emerged anxious at times as I ponder decisions and try to guess what I will need in my future.
I’ve been absent from work based social media, but I’ve been keeping up in some ways.
I appreciate my inner self needs to have frequent experiences that are not associated with manmade environments. Also taking time to be still, is my form of meditation- I’ve never mastered the more commonly recognised techniques. But stillness helps me process my thoughts then I can ‘park’ them more easily and unwind.

Aromatherapy

In this week of national Aromatherapy week I thought I’d add a tip about using essential oils to ward off some of the peskie bitey things that are around in the warm weather.
I’ve been making up a spay to deter the midgies up here in the Highlands they are ridiculous at times, without exaggerating the swarms look like wee clouds 🥺
I dilute a mixture of oils - Thyme
Lemongrass
Lavender
Peppermint
The fragrance is light and refreshing too. It does need refreshing regularly, but that’s easy enough if you make up the solution in a bottle small enough to take out with you.
If you’d like to know more about this idea or other uses please do get in touch, it’s important you research before using essential oils as they are potent substances, but full of therapeutic benefits and helpful in so many circumstances too.

Aromatherapy

It’s National Aromatherapy Week, as a qualified practitioner I have a learnt instinct to turn to the therapeutic properties of essential oils. I know from experience a lot of people like the fragrances but often don’t know how or when to use them.

Earlier this year I had occasion to be at the bedside of a critically ill patient in ICU. The feeling of helplessness was massive, then I thought 💭
I will massage this persons extremities to help make a deep subconscious connection and if all else fails it will at least warm his hands and feet and aid some circulation. The nurse in charge was all for it, but alas had no knowledge, so as I worked I explained the fundaments, she was really impressed and said she was keen to learn more.

Sunshine 🌞

I hear a lot of the uk is delighting in sunshine.

Besides the better known way our bodies create the all essential Vitamin D in sunlight,
Did you know that the benefits are more complex even than that?
It regulates calcium and phosphorus for good teeth and bones.
The light (infra red) from the sunshine helps trigger the natural circadian rhythm of the body that gives us our sleep cycle,triggering the release of the hormone Melatonin (that regulates sleep) thus creating a greater opportunity for a better quality of sleep.
Which of course is needed for your overall health too.
It’s is also mood enhancing so a huge benefit in the fight against depression.

Having a Hobby helps your health 🙂

There is plenty of research that confirms people with hobbies are less likely to suffer from stress, burnout, low mood and depression. And as I’m always saying…to get outdoors, is super beneficial, so if you have a hobby that combines being outside all the better. That aside, creative activities like arts and crafts, or puzzles, or problem solving quizzes help with maintaining cognitive abilities.
Music is also really effective for keeping stress levels to a minimum, whether it’s playing an instrument or writing some lyrics. (also strong links to help improve one’s self esteem)
So on these more wintery days, are you ensuring you have time for your hobbies ?
