Most adults have not used their voice like that in years.

There is a kind of singing the body does before the throat knows about it. A room is humming, and your own voice slides into it without you deciding to. By the time you notice, you have been singing for thirty seconds.

What it does is physiological before anything else. Chanting makes the out-breath longer than the in-breath, which is the most reliable way there is of telling the body it is safe. Sing in a room with other people and your breathing synchronises with theirs without anyone intending it.

There is something else, harder to measure. You cannot chant and hold a conversation with yourself at the same time. The part that narrates and rehearses has nowhere to go.

September has four doorways, and only two ask anything of your voice.

Friday 11 September, 7 to 9pm. Elise and Charlie Premanjali bring their Voices of Peace kirtan concert to our room. Handpan, guitar, voice. Sliding scale, £15 to £25, at premanjali.co.uk/events.

Friday 18 September, 7pm. Tim’s monthly Kirtan, with David on percussion. Martin is away this month. The two of them have been playing together for years. Everybody sings the same words at the same time, one wall of sound. Nobody is listening to you, which is the point. £20.

Tim taught me harmonium. I had been teaching yoga for years by the time I found Kirtan, and it went straight into the middle of what I was already doing. I went to every one of his monthly sessions for years, and I still sing some of his mantras in my classes.

Those two you take part in. The next two you receive.

Every Friday, 8.00am. Breath and Bhajans. You lie down, the breathing settles you, and live music and mantra hold the room while you keep breathing. Nothing is asked of you. Out by half past nine.

Mondays 9.00am and Wednesdays 11.00am. Prana Kriya Yoga. The mantra arrives through the second half, supporting you as we deepen the breath, after the capacity is already open.

If you would rather be carried than take part, start with one of those last two.

By the end of August, the light has already moved. The evenings pull in a minute a day, and something in the body knows before the mind catches up.

There is an hour, between the last of the working day and the first of the dark, where a lot of what we have been carrying starts to speak. The mind slows. The nervous system drops a gear. And the thing that has been asking to be felt finally has a room to be felt in.

Most weeks that hour passes with a screen on, or a glass, or the next thing done. It is available for something else.

Three rooms this August, each held around that hour.

Friday 14 August, Kate’s Crystal Sound Bowl. Gentle stretches, a guided meditation, then the bowls do the work.

Thursday 20 August, Donna’s Women’s Circle. A gentle sharing round outdoors around the fire.

Friday 28 August, Joe and Robby’s Men’s Fire Circle. Fire, cacao, an hour to put down what has been carried alone.

Come to whichever holds the shape you need this month.

July is the loudest month at Well Bath. Not because we are louder. Because everywhere else is.

The heat does it. The longer light does it. The full diary does it. The school holidays, the wedding invitations, the holiday admin, the things you mean to get done before September.

So three quiet rooms across the month, one for each register.

Friday 3 July — Kate’s Crystal Sound Bowl Workshop. The sound doorway. You arrive, you lie down, the bowls do the work.

Saturday 4 July — Tom’s Resilience Meditation. The silence doorway. A still room, a kind voice, an hour back to your own pace.

Friday 24 July — Heidi’s Reiki and Meditations. The touch doorway. Receiving rather than doing, for the week the body has held through the most.

Notice which of the three your body leans toward when you read its name. Sound, silence, or touch. Trust whichever one calls you.

Some weeks leave you carrying more than you meant to. Resilience Meditation is an hour to set it down, a guided sit through body, heart and mind in good company. Tom holds the space gently, and each evening is shaped around whoever turns up. Open to all, whether you sit every day or have never tried it.

Saturday 13 June, 7pm. You can use your class passes.

An evening with Mirella that holds both stillness and strength. The room starts soft, with sound, breath and a slow yin flow, then builds into stronger yang shapes that ground you. You leave clearer than you arrived.

Lauren is back on the schedule.

Yin & Restorative on Sunday evenings at 6pm. Gentle stretches, guided meditation, and a body finally allowed to rest. An hour like this can settle a whole week.

Friday evening. The room dims, the first bowl sings, and the sound seems to move through you rather than past you. We open with breath, meditation and a few gentle stretches, then the crystal bowls and ocean drum take over.

Most people arrive thinking they need to relax. They leave a little quieter than they came in.

Crystal Sound Bowl Workshop with Kate. Friday 5 June, 6.30pm. £20.

The light is a stimulant. After enough of it, the nervous system needs the dark side of the wheel back.

Most adults notice this somewhere in the second week of June. A long lie down on the studio floor. An evening sitting in a circle, doing nothing in particular. Sleep that feels heavier than it should. The body is asking for the other half of the year, even at the peak of its lightest moment.

The solstice falls on Sunday 21 June, and three stillness practices bracket it this month. Tom’s Resilience Meditation on Saturday the 13th. Lauren’s Yin and Restorative class on the solstice itself. Heidi’s Reiki and Meditations on Thursday the 25th.

A fortnight of quieter evenings around the peak of the year. Notice which one your body leans toward.

A slow Sunday morning with Mirella, given to balance, the kind you feel in the body rather than chase. You work gently through standing postures from the feet up, and steadiness builds as you go. A calm way to start the day.

Sunday 31 May, 10am. All welcome.
