With everything that's going on in the world right now, it's natural to be feeling stressed and concerned for the future. But there are things you can do to help yourself to be psychologically healthy in these difficult times. The World Health Organisation has created a fantastic free handbook full of exercises, all based in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and ACT (a modern form of CBT); all of which will help you to develop the flexibility to deal with life's challenges wherever you live and whatever the circumstances. You can download it here.

In preparation for running my first 8 week mindfulness programme, I'm writing a series of blog posts covering the 9 attitudes of mindfulness. These attitudes are helpful philosophies which help you to manage difficult thoughts and feelings when life gets tricky.

The first in the series is the attitude of 'non-judgment'.

If you're interested in taking part in an 8 week programme, please get in touch to register your interest.

He’s busy thinking. Thinking is doing. Mindfulness is being. When we think we automatically and naturally begin to apply judgments to people, places, things and situations based on our individual experience…

If you want to know more about online CBT therapy, I've written a post about how to get the most out of online CBT therapy.

As social distancing looks set to consider for some time, I’m writing to introduce you to the idea of online CBT with a therapist and how to make the most of your online CBT therapy session. Many clients wonder what is it really like to have therapy when you’re not in the same room? Having spent...

A helpful diagram for the current time - this concept is based on Stoic philosophy which informs much of modern CBT. If you can step back and look at what is outside of your control or influence, you can choose to practise letting go of this. When you focus on what you can do in a given situation, you will experience less stress than if you try to control the uncontrollable!
Difficult times for everyone - I'll be practising this myself regularly! :)

Students! If you’re finding things stressful, try to focus on what you can control.

Some musings on the CBT and REBT philosophy on failure... Often when we mess up or make a mistake, we are quick to rate ourselves a failure. Albert Ellis the grandfather of CBT argues that in order to accept ourselves, it's better to stick with rating our actions and not our whole selves... Here are some of my therapist thoughts on the topic...

CBT REBT self acceptance philosophy. How rating yourself a failure is inaccurate and untrue
